Dave's perspectives on X-Men
Frankly, Scarlet, I don't give a damn about She-Hulk's clothes. And I don't remember who was responsible for making Hank McCoy blue and furry. My mind seems to want to connect Jim Starlin to the art chores, but I may be mistaken. Jim wrote most of his projects, but whether or not he got tthe blame f...

My day with the Cockrum's
We've housetrained several other dogs that way, but it doesn't seem to work on Tiootsie. She's too damn strong willed. However--when we first got her as a puppy she seemed to already BE housetrained, and we didn't do any training of our own. It was only when she reached adulthood that this battle of...

Xavier had to go across the galaxy to help Lilandra recover her empire and he asked Magneto to take charge of the school--which in this instance mainly meant the kids (the New Mutants). I wanna tell you, it was a hoot watching the kids dial up Magneto's frustration level.

Fun comics
Sometime in the past few years DC Comics acquired the rights to reprint T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, and they did the entire run in six beautiful hardcover volumes of DC Archives. Thay're a bit pricey at $50 each, but well worth it if you can afford them. DC also has a few volumes of the original Captain ...

Fun comics
Fun comics were always my favorites. I always tried to put a sense of fun in my own comics. My favorite sreies from the '60s was T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents--as many of you must know by now, because I constantly mention them--and that was because there was a lot of fun in their stories. I also love the or...

Paty, I think you're mistaken about the art. I don't think I drew that. And I have sharp memories of Bob st rutting about in a white three-piece suit and black shirt, wih a green or orange tie, and rattling off a snappy patter like a black disc jocky. Bob was fun to be around.

The original Grendel was a character in the epic poem 'Beowulf'. But I think there was a comic by that name. I never read it, tthough. I don't know that Doom thinks of himself as 'good'. He just wants what he wants and woe to anybody who stands in his way. He's amoral. But he allows himself the delu...

Phantom Girl was my favorite, with Shadow Lass a close second. No, I hadn't heard about a Legion cartoon. What's the CW? And thanks for your comments about Nightcrawler. He's my main man, and my alter ego.

Dave's perspectives on X-Men
Personally, I've always considered Doc Doom to be Marvel's greatest villain. He even has a twisted sort of nobility (that's not to say it's safe to turn your back on him). That said, I still prefer Magneto--because I no longer see him as a villain. An adversary, absolutely. But he has a point of vie...

I don't remember numbers, but I believe that he inked some of the Iron Man covers that featured Jack of Hearts. There was also a cover that featured a dynamic full figure shot of Iron Man holding up some sort of electronic geat and being backlit by crackling energy. HO HO! I just checked my X-Men ar...

I don't know a Rob Layton, but I did do some cover work with BOB Layton, in particular on Iron Man. Bob and I were good buddies at Marvel and he inked a number of my covers. I liked his work very much. We also had a lot of good times at conventions together, frequently in the company of Star Trek's ...

Interesting. It appears to be a story involving Jimmy Olson as Elastic Lad. Sadly, the JLA strip never turned up in any paper I ever subscribed to.

What do you look for in a superhero?
For those of you who don'tt recognize the name 'Kooey Kooey Kooey'--it was the name of a tripicalk island in a Justice League of America story arc, and my very favorite JLA story. Keith Giffen was writing JLA in thokse days, and he was wsriting it for laughs. Tbe 'Kooey' arc was outrageously funny: ...

What do you look for in a superhero?
Truth, justice, and bugs for dinner?!? :LOL Paty always says it so much more succinctly (if long-windedly) than I do. I forgot to mention honor, dignity (well, not always), and a sense of outrage at injustice no matter toward who. And that all-necessary sense of humor. Humor is always welcome, even ...

What do you look for in a superhero?
I want a superhero to be (if possible) imaginative, powerful, entertaining. (again, if possible) unique, wear a dashing, colorful, and well-designed costume (unless his mission parameters don't allow it), and be strong of spirit and perhaps even noble--once again, unless he (or she) is deliberately ...

Well, at the time I was really jealous of your metal rendering techniques. I was a fan of Canyon and Terry myself, because of all the airplanes that appeared in them--but somehow I managed not to pick up any instruction from them. Actually, I learned my metal techniques from Neal Adams and from Russ...
