Well, it's that time of year. Last I heard, Rita got upgraded again. And while it looks like Louisiana will be spared Rita's worst (from my mouth to God's ear!), even the tropical storm force winds and rains on its fringes will be, I do believe, more than that place can handle right now.

Rita's been upgraded to a Cat 3 and is anticipated to be a Cat 4 by landfall. The citizens of Galveston, TX, as well as the Louisianans who are finding themselves displaced yet again are in my thoughts and prayers.

I guess I am lucky. The three comic book stores I frequent (one just five blocks away, one 50 miles, and the third 70 miles away) are all very friendly, family-owned and -operated places where I could even :surprise take my kids! A waterfall that can petrify objects left in it is not too far fetched. Nobody's allowed to do this anymore- bad for the ecosystem. But some of the springs at Yellowstone are so rich in minerals (and other things we really shouldn't mess with) that objects left in them could petrify overnight.
