Day or so after [Instance]Cooling Off.

<Carol> Carol vaguely wondered if she would get into trouble for using the jet for what Fury would undoubtedly consider to be a personal errand. Regardless, they were here now and she started the landing procedure, following the instructions on where she could set down that came over the comms.

<Carol> She was the picture of professionalism as she made her responses and landed the jet despite her inner turmoil. She was quite good at shoving that aside and putting on her military hat with its high levels of stoicism. Once they were landed and the engines turned off, she glanced over at Cessily, "How's my flying?"

<Cessily> "Absolutely ace, as always," Cessily replied, looking up at Carol with a small smile. "Except for the landing. That was surprisingly gentle." She unstrapped her seatbelt and straightened her clothes. "Now that we're here, are you finally going to tell me why you took me along?"

<Cessily> "Not that I wouldn't enjoy spending time with you during work. It's just not that often you take me along to meet your boss, so I suppose it's something important." She frowned, and the next moment looked worried. "I'm not in trouble, am I? If it's because of that song I downloaded, I promise I didn't meant to pirate it."

<Carol> "I have to talk to Fury... and I'm not sure how well it's going to go..." She got up from her seat, turning off the console and lowering the ramp.

<Cessily> Her frown deepened. "Are you in trouble?" Then her eyes widened. "It's not because of that file, is it?"

<Carol> "I'm not in trouble..." yet. "I just have to tell him a thing... and he might not like it very much... He doesn't know about the file... and it came from the President so he can bite me."

<Cessily> Cessily quickened her pace to keep up with Carol as they strode down the ramp. "What else could you possibly have to tell..." She paused, which only caused her to have to run a few steps when the other woman continued on. "Wait, is this about us?"

<Cessily> She tried to keep her voice low, so none of the airfield personnel could overhear them. "You're not getting into trouble because you're dating a girl, right? I mean, this is not the Army."

<Carol> Carol paused, turning to look at Cessily, "This isn't about us." She hadn't even considered that that could be an issue and now that was buzzing around in her head with everything else. "It'll be fine," she offered Cess a smile, hiding behind her confident military facade again, "This has nothing at all to do with you, okay? You're just here to stop me chickening out at the last minute."

<Cessily> "Oh." Cessily blinked, and even though she could sense Carol's distress, these words were enough to put her worst fears at ease. Her expression softened. "Okay, yeah, I can do that." She offered the other woman an encouraging smile. "No worries, I'll have your back, whatever you need me for."

<Cessily> "Besides, how bad can be? We already ruled out being gay and treason, so there go the two worst offences." They continued on towards the elevator leading up to the director's office. Cessily looked at Carol while they waited for the lift to arrive. "Did you kill someone? Oh, was it that mean traffic cop?"

<Carol> Carol blinked at Cessily, then laughed, "No, I didn't kill someone... want to but I haven't... yet." She shook herself, "Anyway... it's nothing I've done okay? Nothing I can control... I don't think he'll be mad so much... just... I don't know..." she sighed.

<Cessily> "I'm not going to ask if he found out you're a mutant then, because I'm pretty sure he figured that out by himself now." The elevator doors opened, and Cessily darted forward to slip past Carol. "I wanna push the button!" She grinned like a child when she hit the topmost one.

<Carol> Carol stepped in after her, laughing a little at her antics, "Yeah, everyone knows I have powers. That happens when you crash a test glider and walk away without a scratch."

<Cessily> Cessily smiled, and reached out to squeeze Carol's shoulders. "Whatever it is, I'm sure Fury will understand," she said. As the elevator sped upwards, the silver girl looked out the glass walls at the tall building outside. It took them only seconds to reach the top floor, and the doors opened to the reception hall.

<Carol> "I hope so..." she led the way across the hall to Fury's office, ignoring the protestations of the receptionist. "When have you ever known me to give a damn about whether or not I made an appointment?" She rolled her eyes, knocking on the door.

<Cessily> While trying to keep up with Carol's brusque pace, Cessily paused long enough to wave and smile at the receptionist. "Sorry," she said. "For both of us."

<Fury> "Come in," Director Fury said, loud enough to be heard through the door. He already knew who was outside the door, so showed no surprise when both women entered his office. "Colonel Danvers, Miss Kincaid. Good morning."

<Carol> Carol closed the door behind them once Cessily was inside and saluted Fury because she was supposed to, "Good morning, Sir."

<Cessily> "Good morning, sir," Cessily said, quiet and polite, and already felt out of place. The fact she didn't even knew the reason for their visit wasn't helping.

<Fury> Fury returned the salute. "Now, what brings you here? I heard you had urgent matters to discuss in private with me." He turned to the large window front, his eye on the jet parked on the airfield outside. "Considering the hurry you were in to get in, this has to be very urgent news."

<Carol> Carol nodded even though he had his back to them and moved into the middle of the room, "Yeah... you remember the space raccoon I called about a couple of weeks ago?"

<Fury> "How could I forget about that?" Fury replied, turning his head so his gaze fell on the Colonel. "I assume you wouldn't have come here personally to tell me he turned out to be another mutant as we had hoped."

<Fury> "So, tell me, Colonel, do we have to prepare for an invasion of alien raccoons, come here to steal our trash?"

<Carol> "I hope not, one's annoying enough..." she sighed, "He already warned us about one alien race which you know about... but in that conversation his buddy up in his ship mentioned another. Apparently they were picking up a reading that there was one near by. The other day I asked if he could track that down to a specific location. He did." She looked down at the floor, "It's me."

<Cessily> Cessily stared, her expression one of utter confusion. She had not yet grasped the full implications of what Carol had said, but understood enough that something alien was going on with her girlfriend. The look on her face turned to worry.

<Fury> Director Fury had more disciplined control over his features, only his furrowing brow betraying his concern. "What are you talking about, Colonel? Are you saying this alien device reacted to your presence?"

<Carol> "I'm saying that I have alien DNA. More than that, I have memories of places I've never been to - he showed me stars and worlds I've never seen but I knew them... I can't explain it..." she threw Cessily an apologetic look.

<Cessily> "Are you saying you're an alien?" Even though her voice trembled, Cessily didn't even feel silly asking such a question. She had seen too much weirdness in her young life already.

<Fury> "Are you sure these readings are correct, and that they mean what you believe they mean?" Fury asked, loud and clear so there could be no misunderstanding.

<Carol> Carol bit her lip, looking over at Cessily again as she spoke, "Yes." Her voice was as steady as she could make it.

<Cessily> Her mouth stood open, and her thoughts were a chaotic mess, but Cessily's gut still knew what to do. She stepped forward and slung her arms around Carol, pulling her tight against her chest, her face buried in her girlfriend's neck. "That's so cool," she whispered with barely contained excitement.

<Fury> Director Fury remained silent, his expression unreadable as he studied Lieutenant-Colonel Danvers. Only the rapid tapping of his finger against his desk revealed his agitation.

<Carol> Carol put an arm around Cessily's waist to keep her there and rested her cheek against her head, "Sir...?" She watched him warily, "I know some things are probably supposed to happen now... It's okay... I wouldn't have come here otherwise."

<Fury> Fury took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I've got to be honest with you here, Colonel," he said, fixating his subordinate with his stern gaze. "I'm not entirely sure how to handle this. You will excuse me when I saw that this is new territory for all of us."

<Fury> "Don't get me wrong, there are certain protocols for a theoretical situation like this," the Director continued, pushing himself off his desk to take a couple steps closer. "The emphasis being theoretical here. If what you say is correct, we are dealing with an actual first contact scenario here."

<Cessily> "You're not going to probe her and cut her up, are you?" Cessily asked, her arm firmly around Carol.

<Fury> His eye rested on the silver woman by the Colonel's side. "Don't worry, Miss Kincaid, I assure you that I have no intention to cause the Lieutenant-Colonel any harm, and I believe I can say the same for the rest of the staff under my command."

<Fury> "As for the authorities other than SHIELD... " He left the rest unsaid, but the tone of his voice made the message clear.

<Carol> "I figured it'd be something like that... Some people were all for me not saying anything about it at all but I thought that could come back to bite me in the ass later so here I am. Where we go from here is up to you because I have no idea what the right steps are." She gave Cess a small squeeze, "I already took precautions in case it all ended up with me locked up somewhere..."

<Cessily> "I'm not gonna let anyone lock you up," Cessily said, and even though she wasn't speaking loudly, the determination in her voice was not to be ignored.

<Fury> "Neither will I, if I can help it." Fury's words were directed at the metallic mutant, before he returned his attention to the alleged alien in his office. "However, there can be no doubt that others will see this differently. You did right to take precautions."

<Fury> "And to come to me first," he added, before returning to his desk. "While I have faith in anyone under my command, we have to be realistic here. This is something that would have to be reported, and I can't guarantee in the confidentiality of everyone working in this facility."

<Carol> "I know that..." she sighed, "So what are we going to do? Do I just go back to work and wait? Or do I need to make a phonecall?"

<Fury> "Well, according to your report, Colonel, we might soon have far more serious problems on our hands, and I can't lose one of my best field commanders because she believes herself to be an alien," Fury said, in a deliberately conversational tone.

<Fury> "If there is anything to that claim, I assume the medical and scientific staff of your school will be prepared to handle it." He pushed a few buttons on the controls of his desk. He looked up at Colonel Danvers. "For now, I strongly advise against spreading any unfounded rumours."

<Fury> "Are we clear about that, Colonel?" Fury asked, while pressing the button that would delete any records of this meeting.

<Carol> Carol nodded, "Yes, Sir... thank you." She bent to mutter into Cessily's ear, "I'm not going anywhere." Giving her girlfriend another squeeze, she looked back up at Fury, "Good thing I don't get sick, huh?"

<Fury> "I'm glad for it. The last thing we need now is an outbreak of the Martian Measles or a case of the cosmic rabies." Director Fury chuckled. "Speaking of, I can trust you to continue your observation of our pint-sized visitor?"

<Carol> She nodded, "Until his obnoxious furry ass leaves our solar system."

<Cessily> Cessily returned the affectionate gesture and gave her girlfriend a heartfelt smile, feeling some of the tension fall off when she realised nothing would happen to Carol. For now, anyway, but she refused to sour her relief by worrying about the future.

<Cessily> "We hope he will leave once he finds no more food in our pantry," the silver teacher added.

<Fury> Fury nodded. "Good," he said. "Keep me updated on any new developments, and let me know if he engages in any suspicious behaviour. More suspicious than simply being here, that is. But for now, I'm reluctant to risk an interstellar incident by acting without fully understanding the situation."

<Fury> "Oh, and Colonel, I strongly advise you only report directly to me, and don't mention this particular mission to anyone else you do not directly work with and trust."

<Carol> "No problem there," Carol assured him, "Although... I think I should at least mention it to my mom..."

<Fury> Director Fury revealed a rare smile. "Of course," he said. "I don't think this will be any problem."

<Carol> "Well good because I was going to do it anyway." She pushed a hand through her hair, "I guess we should go now."

<Fury> Fury nodded. "If there is nothing else, you are dismissed, Colonel." His gaze fell on the silver redhead by his officer's side. "Can I trust you to take good care of my agent, Miss Kincaid? I will sleep much easier knowing there's a capable counsellor by her side during this time."

<Cessily> Cessily seemed to grow several inches from pride alone. "Yes, sir," she replied with a grin, and this time she gave a salute of her own. "You can count on me, Director Fury."

<Carol> Carol straightened up and dropped the arm around Cessily, "I guess we can revisit what to do about all this at a later date then."

<Fury> "Yes, we will deal with that in its own time," Fury replied, approaching to escort Carol and Cessily. "Hopefully when we have more answers." He stopped, his eye moving from one woman to the other. "I do not have to mention the possible consequences that wait for all of us should word of this discussion leave these doors, do I?"

<Cessily> Cessily bit her lip and shook her head. "No, sir," she said. "And thank you."

<Carol> Carol shook her head, "Definitely not." She paused to give Fury a proper salute now that she was being dismissed.

<Fury> They both received another stern look, before Fury returned the salute. "Very well then. Dismissed." He nodded at the silver counsellor and opened the door.

<Fury> "And a good day to you, Miss Kincaid," the SHIELD Director said. "I'm sorry you had to come personally in this matter. I assure you the incident will not repeat itself, and that I will make sure all of my agents know how to behave themselves."

<Cessily> Cessily blinked in confusion, until she saw the receptionist outside in the hall. "Oh no, thank you for your time, Director," she replied. "And for handling this personally. There is really no need to make a big fuss over it."

<Carol> "Oh this isn't a fuss, if it was a fuss there'd be more guns." Carol nodded sagely, "Oh you should get a new receptionist - this one never remembers I don't make appointments ever and gets all stressed out." She stared pointedly in the receptionist's direction.

<Fury> With a glance at the receptionist, who looked like a shocked deer debating to run away, Fury bade his visitors farewell with a smile. "I might consider it, Colonel," he said, and a faint smirk played across his features.

<Cessily> "Sorry again," Cessily said, once more walking past the receptionist with a smile and a wave as she made her way back to the elevator.

<Carol> Carol gave the receptionist a wave as she passed, pulling Cess into the elevator and wrapping her into a hug as soon as the doors closed. "I am so sorry for springing this all on you."

<Cessily> After her surprise wore off, Cessily returned the hug with an even tighter squeeze. "Wow, you're an alien," she mumbled against Carol's neck. "That's so... wow." She pulled back and looked at her girlfriend with a grin. "You're an alien."

<Carol> Carol laughed, "Yeah... well... part alien. Not sure how much of a part of me is.... Rocket was a little sketchy on the details." She turned her head and pressed a kiss into Cessily's hair.

<Cessily> "Wow, my girlfriend is a half-alien," Cessily said, still with that silly grin on her face. She grasped Carol's cheeks and kissed her on the lips. "Is that why you sparkle?"

<Carol> "Could be why I do a lot of things," she gave a small shrug. "Maybe we'll never know."

<Cessily> "I have to admit, I didn't expect that to be the reason we came here," she said, still smiling, even though her expression grew thoughtful. "I guess we shouldn't tell any of the others either."

<Carol> "A few people know... Katherine Pryde was there when he worked out it was me... and I told Chris and Bobby because I sort of needed to talk to someone about it. Chris was no help at all, hence Bobby..." She wrinkled her nose, "I was totally desperate."

<Cessily> "That's okay," Cessily said and nodded. "Just means we can skip that part of the plan." She frowned. "And speaking of telling people, how do you think your mom is going to take this?"

<Carol> "I don't know... but I have to tell her." She frowned, "I'm so not telling my dad."

<Cessily> "I can't blame you." Cessily's smile had returned, but now it was replaced by a puzzled look. "If you're half-alien, shouldn't technically one of your parents already know about it?"

<Carol> "Technically... which is why I want to talk to my mom... figure out if maybe we need to warn Joe..."

<Cessily> Cessily frowned. "Are you worried someone else might know?"

<Carol> "No... just... if it comes from one of my parents then there's the chance that they passed it on to Joe too... obviously it skipped Steven..."

<Cessily> She gave Carol's hands a comforting squeeze. "If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. You and your family have had to make it through so much lately. Really, it's the least I could do."

<Carol> "I'll be fine... so long as I don't have to tell my dad. He doesn't need another reason to hate me. I kind of would rather talk to Joe first... but he'll have as many questions as I do and I can't answer those without mom's input."

<Cessily> "If you need some time for yourself, I could handle the alien raccoon while you take care of your family," Cessily offered with a smile.

<Carol> "That would be fantastic... see how much information you can get out of him about the Kree... and, while you're at it, the Shi'ar, the Brood and Skrulls." That intense loathing bubbled up in her again, "I feel like the Skrulls are going to be a problem for me."

<Cessily> "Kree, Shi'ar, Broo, and Skulls, got it." Cessily nodded, while the elevator slowed down and the doors opened to the busy lobby. "And don't worry about our guest. I'll keep him tied up and milk him for what he's worth while you're gone."

<Carol> "Skrulls," Carol corrected, leading the way to the jet, "And thanks... I don't know what I'd do without you sometimes."

<Cessily> Following close behind, Cessily put on a thoughtful face. "I have no idea, but I bet it would be a lot more boring."
