The Bored

Timelined for a few days after the Brood Invasion.

It had been almost a month... or perhaps a month had passed? Viper was beginning to lose track of the days. She was hardly sleeping - a few hours at a time every couple of days when she was somewhere secure. All the time was starting to morph into an incoherent blob of absolute boredom. She'd managed to liberate some of her property from her home base; a few more-portable items of technology, some weapons and a handful of personal items. She'd made sure none of these items were trackable by Hydra. Liberating an entire base had turned out to be a much more difficult task.

It seemed that Hydra had been waiting for this - perhaps for some time. Just waiting for an excuse to cut her loose. They had moved very quickly to cast her off and reclaim the bases as their own. With some reluctance, she'd had to abandon her plan to take back her projects and rethink her options. She was resourceful and she had money - she'd stashed cash in several locations over the years. What she lacked was information - but she could get it.

Viper was currently sat in a parked car with a meagre lunch and a terrible cup of coffee, staking out an office building. She'd been watching the place around the clock for four days now, making sure to move her car around so that it didn't draw too much attention. Night-time security was laughable and she had no doubt that she would be able to get in and out unnoticed. She would make her move after twelve more hours of relentless boredom and then drive to the nearest port.

At least she could stop worrying about the Brood now. A few days ago there'd been an announcement on the news about it. She'd entertained herself for several hours listening to the crazy theories phoned in to the radio station while they awaited comment from official sources. But all of that had died down now and taken the only reason to listen to the radio with it.

Leaning into the back seat, Viper picked up the bear she'd retrieved from the Hydra base - it was among her few personal possessions. She tipped it slowly toward her, listening to the mechanism inside roll smoothly into place. Even though it was almost a hundred years old, just like her it still functioned perfectly. She tipped the bear backwards, listening to the sound it made - it was supposed to be a growl but, in reality, it sounded more like a sheep.

Still, it gave her something to do for a few minutes. Tipping the bear forward and back, listening to the mechanism slide and growl and wondering how it functioned - she'd never taken it apart to find out, there were always too many other things to do. And then some idiot spilled coffee all over her windshield. It startled her out of her reverie and she took great pleasure in soaking said idiot with the water jet when she cleaned the coffee away.

Time to move again.
