So I completely skipped #16. What a waste of money. My girlfriend enjoyed it, I was not that impressed. I really don't like this new Hellfire Club. I thought I did, but I don't like the lack of plausibility behind it. I get that this title (specifically) has a lot of camp in it, but these guys didn't even start from this title. Also, what's great about W&tXM is that, despite the camp, it always has good heart. Besides issues with the HellFire Juniors.

BUT!

#17 was Fan-Fucking-Tastic I loved the entire issue! Every panel, every voice-bubble. It was one of the best written issues yet. Jason Aaron is a master.

So I re-read it for the 5th time. What a great issue.

I think #17 just proves the point that we need more Doop!!

Okay, just read WatXM #18. Ugh. Completely unbelievable last minute brain conversation between Charles and Logan(uh, probably not the best time for a pep-talk Charlie, your ass was getting fried), Kitty out of character as usual, a CoH rip-off, and more Hellfire Brats. I won't even mention the final page. :( Bleh.

I really liked this series for about the first 7-8 issues, and there have been some scattered in that I enjoyed, but it feels like it's going down hill or maybe Aaron is running out of ideas, or at least losing some voices. I'm a sad panda.

So I finally got around to reading it.
I disagree entirely, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the last few pages were rather tragic and well written. The splicing of the three different storylines happening at once, converging at one point, it's easy to see why what happens is overlooked by the other two events.

It's easy to say Kitty is out of character when she's acting differently, because fans of Kitty still expect her to be a young girl. However, she's has to "cowboy up", as the out-of-date-expression goes, and be a big girl now. "Firing" Husk was a necessity and she has been given a major task in being "headmistress" of that school. She has a whole new series of tough decisions, but we've seen her stand her ground to their enemies and even the avengers or their own fellow-mutants, repeatedly within this title. If you ask me? This was completely in character, in terms of the evolution of the character. She's developing into a tough cookie, and I'm going to say Aaron has a good grip on that. As for the Pep-talk with Charles? I suppose.
I said this with something else recently, forget what, but it's as unbelievable as you want it to be. Do you genuinely believe that Charles would know what is happening to him, do you think he is "gradfather" or "sage" character in Logan's Hero's Journey, aware of the path before and behind the hero and giving him last-moment, fateful advice that he can either take or not? Do you feel Xavier is the most powerful mutant telepath on Earth?

I do. And because I believe those two things, that was a totally understandable assertion for Aaron to have that final message to Logan.

Those're my 2 cents.

I did, Elwing. I thoroughly enjoyed #20.

.... #21 unfortunately,... I was incorrect when I said Aaron could do "no wrong". This Plot is a little ridiculous for my tastes... I might sit this arc out and collect some other issues of other things I've not been able to read up on.

Unless there's important character development, in that case I'll just simply continue to not pick it up 'til it's over and just be regretful about it. :smug

Did you catch the bit about Calacabrina? (the witch with Frankenstein's masses)

"By the power of the Darkhold and the brimstone rage of my red lord, hear me, my flesh thralls, my mind damned! Hear me Frankenstein's army of freaks! Heed the commands of your unholy queen, Calacabrina, witch of the Winding Way! I who hold the reins of your souls!"

You refer to this?

I feel like "brimstone rage of my red lord" is pretty easy to attribute to anything demonic, Nightcrawler or not.

It's nice to think about, but I don't think at the most we're just going to get an explanation of the Bamfs. Maybe.

One thing that is starting to bother me about this series is nothing is getting really resolved. The problem lingers and bleeds into the next plot, even in the background. I'm really sick of these New Hellfire kids.

Bit of an update on this in the last issue. The witch has been definitively linked to Azazel, and there was a bamf shown in a specimen jar labeled "Hell Beast".

I saw the jar, what makes you say linked to Azazel? Also, wow if it weren't for the possible explanation of bamfs I would not read this terrible plot. This frankenstein circus plot is just farking terrible.

The map in the background of Isla des Demonas just before the panel with the "Hell Beast". Max's robot also gave the reading, in part: "Calacabrina, witch of the Winding Way, Known Affliations: Az...." Then he was interrupted.

Agree absolutely on the Frankenstein's circus thing. Ugh.

I read it. I'm keeping an open mind, but a part of me suspects by the end of this arc, Nightcrawler will still not be back.

I'm not yet getting hopeful, either, but it does all look very intriguing. I suspect all of these developments come together for the X-Termination crossover. If Nightcrawler is to return anytime soon, it's going to be at the end of that.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, either. Marvel does seem to enjoying taunting fans.
This was posted in the NC appreciation thread on CBR, as well : http://ifanboy.com/articles/teaser-birt ... e-bianchi/

I agree, if they were going to bring the character back, both the current goings on in WatXM as well as X-Termination make for a good opportunity. We'll see, I guess.

Right, but the BIRTH. teaser has a strange font. Very similar to villains like Galactus, Wizard, Ultron (Age of Ultron is just around the corner), or even Thanos. I'd be surprised if it has to do with Nightcrawler, but maybe. Maybe.

I have to say, I thought that intro was really cool though. I wouldn't say I'm hopeful that Nightcrawler is coming back, I'm hopeful that Jason Aaron is finally going to give some definition to Chuck Austen's Azazel because LORD does he need it.

The only time the character was cool was in the movie, I'd like to see him make a bit of a come back. How much you wanna bet he will show up again in X-Men: Days of Future Past as well?

I really have to agree with this review of W&tXM #26AU.

It wasn't bad... the pairing was nice, but it was not the book you have been reading.

So what do we think of June 12's #31 W&tXM?

Or the issue after that:
June 23's #32 Issue?
