As I've mentioned before, I'm a Green Lantern fan. I love the whole mythos, and specifically, I love Hal Jordan. Now, I will admit on picking this up, I have not read GL in about a year. So I am quite behind, but I found it wasn't too difficult to jump in here. And I LOVED IT.

I loved what they are setting up here. Lots of shifts, and in really interesting directions. Hal is no longer a lantern? And on top of that, Sinestro has his ring? I am beyond intrigued with this direction.

To comment on the guardians, I have never trusted them. Ganthet seems to be the only one who isn't completely sketchy, and who knows, from what we've seen in this issue, if that will remain. It looks like he's no longer going to be a lantern, and will be with the guardians once more, but I am excited to see how it will all unravel. I find it most interesting that in trying to protect the universe, the guardians have essentially CAUSED every single bad thing thats happened to it.

Carol. I LOVE CAROL FERRIS! She's such a fabulous character, and this issue brought back my favorite dynamic between her and Hal - she's into him, and he's a complete idiot. I love this between them, and I love how unwilling Carol is to put up with his bullshit.

Out of the books I've read so far, this is the one I enjoyed the most. I am very biased, as a GL fan, but this was really interesting. Can't wait for the next issue!

I'm a big GL fan, and enjoyed the first issue, mostly because it picks up from where the last volume left off. Biggest issue I'm having with most of these new 52 books is that they are either very week or almost everyone seems to be very decompresed and pick up like they're in the middle of a story, without explanation of what the heck's going on.

Hola WillPower! Welcome!

Can you give me a bit of background as to what's been happening in GL to lead up to this? I will agree that some of these books aren't as new-reader friendly as DC had originally purported, but at the same time I can see where they're going with it.

Unlike you two, I know like, nothing about the Green Lantern aside from the basics. But I did read this in an effort to be open minded, and it seemed interesting, and I am curious what Sinestro has planned. I think Johns did a good job of explaining everything, I didn't feel lost or anything like that, but at the same time, it kinda just highlighted how much backstory is there, which was a bit daunting.

I don't blame you for feeling a bit intimidated by the GL backstory. There is a TON. But what I've always enjoyed about Johns is his way of referencing history in a way that doesn't over explain but also doesn't alienate new readers. Even with my year away, I still understood enough to just pick up, and seeing Sinestro as a green lantern was such a big WTF that I'm hooked back in.

Okay long story short (too late!) Johns intriduced the ROYGBIV emotional spectrum, the corresponding lantern corps & their avatars. Krona a renegade guardian collected the avatars and used them to seize control of the guardians & the Green Lantern Corps. During the melee that followed Mogo the planet GL who was their moral compass gets killed, and a green ring chooses sinestro. Furled by anger & frustration and his powerful will Hal is able to kill Krona in battle with his ring. For his efforts he's surreptitiously fired by the guardians because of his history of disobedience & having worked with the other Corps at one point but it's heavily implied that they're really scared shitless that a GL killed a guardian (even an evil one) with one of their rings which are not supposed to have that capability. He's then dumped on Earth in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for that, WP! That explains the whole thing with Krona in Red Lanterns. PS, where have the avatars gone?

Well the Butcher (rage) is on Ysmault with the Reds. OPhidian (avarice) is in the orange lantern. The rest are in the wind I believe.

Ahhh. I enjoyed them. I wish I had read up the past few months to see it all pan out. But I'm glad to be jumping back in now. Oy vey, T Potter was right!

Oooh thanks. It makes more sense now. I kind of sort of figured parts of this out from reading the books (this one and Red Lanterns) but this fills in a few gaps.

I'm one of those precious noobs. I basically knew the name Hal Jordan and that was it.

That said I thought this book was all right. Obviously a lot going on that I don't know anything about, but easy enough to follow.
