You seem to be a film buff, so I was curious as to what your favorite movies were, and second, what comics do you think would translate to movies well??

with all the bad vibes on the board of late, and just wanted to kick off something a little lighter :P

Everyone else is welcome to put in thier own faves as well...and then we can argue about it :LOL

Wow...it's hard for me to say...I love :love movies. Seen more than most people I know. But anyway:

1) Pirates of the Carribean
2) X2
3) Finding Nemo
4) Monty Python and the Holy Grail
5) DragonHeart
6)Shawshank Redemption
7) X-Men 1
8) Spider-man
9) Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
10) Shrek

Okay, that's all i can think of right now...Shawshank Redemption, one of the best movies of all time, was filmed in the city I live in. That's kinda my towns claim to fame. :ooh

Well, can't wait to hear everyone elses!:D

I think Panz was throwing it open to everybody, actually. Yeah, I'm a major movie buff, and I like so many of them that it's difficult to narrow them down to just ten. But I'll take a whack at it. These are not necessarily in order as I like them...and they don't necessarily represent what I consider great movies, but rather best beloved (by me) movies.

1. Creature From the Black Lagoon
2. Spartacus
3. Scaramouche
4. The Prisoner of Zenda
5. Lord of the Rings (both movies so far, and
tentatively the third one. Well worth waiting
40 years for the movie)
6. Spider-Man--Best superhero picture ever
made.
7. The Sea Hawks
8. X2
9. Gettysburg (a litle preachy in places, but a Civil
War buff's delight.
10. Peter Pan (Disney) Whatthehell, I'm Peter
himself.

I'll never be able to to decide on just 10 so I'll read off the first 10 movies in my massive dvd collection since they're all part of my favorites anyway.

1. The Fellowship of the Ring (soon to be replaced by RotK I'm betting)
2. Jurassic Park
3. Star Wars (the originals of course)
4. Cannibal the Musical
5. Beauty and the Beast
6. Braveheart
7. Addicted to Love
8. Black Beauty
9. Fight Club
10. My Fair Lady

Honorary Mentions: Dragonheart, MST3K The Movie!, 5th Element, Princess Mononoke, Nassica of the Valley of the Wind, Evolution, 40 Days and 40 Nights, Waiting for Guffman (a MUST for anyone from Missouri), Life is Beautiful, Detective Conan and the Timed Skyscraper, Road Trip, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, X2, Empire of the Sun, John Huges 80s movies, The Evil Dead movies (especially Army of Darkness), Seven, The Secret Garden, American Beauty, Independence Day, Gundam Wing Endless Waltz (okay so it was a three part OVA but they did make a movie out of it), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Piano, Conan the Barbarian (it did have James Earl Jones anyway), The Two Towers, The Black Stallion/Returns, Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Jekyl and Hyde the Musical, all animated Disney and Don Bluth movies (Sleeping Beauty and The Land Before Time my favorites out of that group though), Balto, Spirit, Shrek, Dinosaur, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, True Romance, The Matrix (only the first one though), City of Angels, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, The Broken Hearts Club, Dragonslayer, Ladyhake, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Gonies (I really hope they aren't going to ruin this with a sequel 20 years later), Indiana Jones movies, Princess Bride, Signs....etc, etc, etc.

I'm going to be here all night if I don't stop! Let me just say though that everyone around here seems to have exceedingly good taste in movies. ;)

I have to add Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption, Rocky Horror Picture Show, most Tom Hanks and most Harrison Ford movies to my favorites, too.

I haven't seen Pirates of the Caribbean yet, but two pirate movies I absolutely love are Errol Flynn's The Sea Hawk, and Burt Lancaster's The Crimson Pirate. Swashbuckler, with Robert Shaw and James Earl Jones, isn't bad either.

Oi... Looks like I have more classical tastes in movies compared to most here. I'm afraid mine reads like the AFI list (or something)

1. Citizen Kane - The angles! The deep focus! */cinematography fangirling*

2. It's a Wonderful Life. A friend of mine took a scriptwriting course where the instructer told them than anything they needed to know about screenwriting they could learn from this script. I don't know about that, but it is amazing, and has my city's motto (or, it should be) is in it:
George: Rochester? Well, why Rochester?
Sam: Well, why not? Can you think of anything better?

3. Anything Hitchcock. It's all amazing. Saboteur, The Birds, Rear Window, and especially Rope. I jump every time I hear the music to Psycho.

4&5: For sheer quotability; The Princess Bride and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. (on a related note, I wonder why almost everyone here has Princess Bride on their lists? Well, besides the fact that it's one of the greatest movies ever made...

6. ET. Baby's first VHS! I watched this movie so much when I was little, because it was the only tape I could recognise by color (It was green... for some reason...)

7. Grave of the Fireflies An anime movie that makes me sob like a baby...

8. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Another sad one... sheesh

9. Nightmare Before Christmas. I loved this movie when I was young, and recently got the special edition DVD. When I watched the 'making of' documentary, I gained a whole new respect for the flawless stop-motion animation

10. Edward Scissorhands Suffice it to say, Tim Burton rocks my surreal little world...

And now I stop babbling on... *g*

I can't believe no one has even mentioned Mulan by Disney! I thought that movie was very inspiring for some reason. The songs were really good too. Even the script was good!

Look at me ... I will never pass for a perfect bride
Or a perfect daughter
Can it be?
I'm not meant to play this part?
Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself
I would break my family's heart.

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me
Why is my reflection someone I don't know
Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am, inside?

My favorite quote was:
"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all."

PotC is a Great film- you really should check it out. It had one of the best Sword fights I've ever seen in the first act. Of course, as Late Night talk show host Conan O'Brien observed, a hit movie based on a ride at Disney World is a dangerous thing- soon, we will be faced with "It's a Small Wold Afterall"-The movie
