I know what you mean... I had a teacher in high school like that. Wonderful man... wonderful voice and only a tiny trace of an accent to give away his original language. I think it must happen if you speak the original language at home, while using English in your daily working life and with neighbors. I met a lot of people like that in New York City...if they spoke their native language at home, they retained the lilt that their native intonations gave certain speech patterns. If they tried to speak like their neighbors, they lost those intonations and lilts faster.
I spent a whole summer with an arabian girl in a YWCA camp when I was in College. All us counselors made it our project to teach her better English throughout the camp all summer. by the end of the summer her English had improved dramatically...she had no one else to speak arabic with...LOL...so after cammp, her brother would not be back from Saudi Arabia...he was a UN delegate who had gone home for the summer and farmed out his sister, who kept house for him, to a girls cammp! ...Anyway, after camp was over I had a week to kill and she invited me to her apartment...or rather, her brother's apartment... for a week. We went all over the city and say things she had not seen even though she had lived there for five years. In the interim, there was a large middle eastern contingent in her building and she started to speak with her neighbors again and her english devolved into the patois she came into camp with...except when we spoke together. On the other hand, I began picking up HER intonations, breaks and lilts. At the end of the week, she was invited to an afternoon party and took me along. she introduced me to a lovely lady who also spoke with a marked accent. By now my english had acquired the same kind of lilts, and everyone thought I spoke arabic so they all started speaking arabic ...I couldn't understand a word...and I told Obidah so. She laughed and told the hostess totell all the others that I only spoke English...when the hostess heard this, she was amazed and ased if it was true. I said yes... and she said .."But you speak patois with the same accent we do when we speak English..." I told her that it was the result of living with Obidah for a week... she was teaching me how to speak broken English! LOL... we all laughed and the hostess made an announcement that if talking to Obidaha's guest, please speak English...she didn't understand arabic no matter how much her accent said otherwise!!! I made a concerted effort to lose the patois...LOL they all said they had been fooled and thought I was arabic attempting to speak English as they did...LOL Everyone, including myself, thought it was very funny. But it did make me aware of how easy it was to pick up accents.
when I first moved north to NY fromMaryland I had a "southern" accent to a degree. Not the accent of the deep south, but a Maryland accent... which was "southern" to New Yokers. My husband of the time said I was the only person he knew who could say dog in three syllables! Just the other day, I was talking to Chris Claremont on the phone, and he remarked that i was picking up the southern drawl again. I told him I would never be as "southern" as Dickie McKenzie, a staffer from Tennessee or Kentucky who could never get a word in edgewise in New York... the people talked so fast there and she salked with this slow, southern drawl. LOL He allowed as how I didn't quite measure up to Dickie...yet...LOL

When I think of it, it would be logical for Mags to have a slight European accent of some sort. But I have met Europeans who have none...and when I questioned them, they said they had made a concerted effort to lose their homeland accent while in the US. they found that when they returned to Europe, that they got it back. It was a "blending in" thing that helped them in business, they said.
In my mind, I never heard Mags speak with an accent... possibly because it was never used in the comics. Unlike Kurt, who I do hear speaking with an accent, because he doe so in the books on occasion... and Peter Rasputin who I always heard with a russian accent because he occasionally slipped into a Russian exclamation or patois.
Gambit has a Cajun accent, of course, and Rogue has a southern drawl that domes and goes with the sensitivity of the writer. Accents as well as speech patterns are things that can identify an offpannel speaker...as well as establishing that this is a person in his or her own right and will have their own way of speaking. differentiation is not only accomplished with different costumes and hair styles! Good writers use speech patterns and inflection to distinguish each character from another.

Yes, Mags voice should be cultured, strong and not unlike sir Ian's... with a European lilt... upperclass british will do...LOL

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA
Undershirt! I love it!!! ROTFLMAO !!! Y'know, it only takes one typo...the letterers will letter what they are given... especially in different languages! and don't expect an editor to catch that kind of typo...LOL ... Hell! they can't even catch typos inENGLISH!!

that's wonderful! LOLOL... doing either foreign languages or Old English is fraught with danger.
Tilman, one of our other correspondents that lives in Germany, says sometimes the slaughtering of the language is amazing. LOL...

Undershirt... OK... I am gonna giggle about that one all day...

Giving this thread a bump....and a opening a few questions...

In the 1602, Magneto didn't want Wanda and Petros to know they were his--why not?!

And what was his solo mission at the end? (the one where he told Javier he was to help with when asked)

as far as the parantage... who knows? Probably Gaiman, whose mind i willnot even attempt to fathom... I willjust enjoy his work.
Mags went off north... to establish a home for mutants...probably in what would become Westchester County... that's my guess... and might require Javier's help in the future...to build Cerebro? LOL there's so much here to build on...I dohope that if they do another followup series that they will have the sense to let Neil Gaiman write it... and not let some less talented writer mess up such a terriffic storyline and alternate universe seceerio!

Just came up with a theory as to who impostor Magneto is..........

After Genosha was laid to waste, Oportunistic former members of the Genoshan Ruling class sought to bring things back to the way they were- living high and mighty on the backs of mutant slaves. But they had a problem- Magneto and the X-men could botch the whole deal............

Knowing the world would probably see them and Magneto as equally Bad choices top lead a country, they decided to do something that would tilt public opinion against Magneto.......

Enter Astra. They commision her to create a Magneto clone. She uses some DNA from a chinese mutant named Xorn to alter his scent and powers enough to make him undetectable, then has him trained to fullfill the Magistrate's mission- To Infiltrate and destroy the X-men, then rape, murder and pillage in Magneto's name, before dissapearing. Should Magneto rise up to stop the Magistrates from claiming Genosha, the World Powers would strike him down in retaliation for what "he" did to them.

One thing ruined the plan, though........ he got involved with Kick. A drug that enhanced mutant powers would theoretically be useful to the mission. However, under the influence of Sublime, Cloneto's powers were enhanced, but he had less control, and his judgement was impaired. He failed to destroy the X-men, and was publicly slain by Wolverine...........

Ah, how the mind wanders when you're bored out of your mind at work............

That is a plausible theory Nightcrawler Zero, I have also thought about Astra being involved in the appearance of the fake Magneto.

Ha! I wanted to take the interference of Astra all the way back to when she originally captured Mags and cloned Joseph! do you know how much bad Magneto storylines could be explained away with that kind of scenerio? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!

but this is very good, NZ ! And plausible to boot! I love creative thinking along these lines! I know a lot of people hate clones as an answer to virtually anything stupid done with a character... but, since clones are a modern day reality...in animals if not humans...it is no stretch of the imagination or suspension of disbelief to insert them as explanations for situations like this. In the future, we may actually have to consider the possibility of clones having legal status...the "clone wars" of Star Wars looms as more than fiction, doesn't it?

the only thing we don't have just yet is accellerated growth...growing something in months that would take years normally. but with alien technologies, it can happen in the comic books with very little suspension of disbelief...which is the forte of comic literature! LOL

The uncommon becomes common...and science fiction of today becomes real science of tomorrow. did Jules Verne envision subs as possible realities when he wrote twenty thousand leagues under the Sea? Possibly. did other writers envision us going to the moon or Mars when they wrote about such things as a fantasy world of the future? Absolutely! could Leonardo Da vinci have imagined the helicopters of today when he designed the first whirlybird that couldn't have worked only because it lacked the power source needed?! Did the Wright brothers ever dream of a C5A? Probably not... but you have to crawl before you can walk. Twenty five years ago, who could have imagined the Internet? computers were humongous great things owned by megacompanies and they took up whole floors in buildings! who would ever have imagined a "laptop"? And especially one for private use for everyday people and students!!!

so it is not a great stretch to believe in clones. Not today, it's not! LOL...The world is exploding with so much that was once only science fiction that the problems that mutants face in the comic books may soon become reality!

We heard recently about a real "mutant". A child born with a genome that is a mutation of what we know as "human" gene structure. The kid is human in appearance...except for this gene anomaly ... and they only found it because they looked...because the kid at only a couple months of age had the musculature structure of a seven year old!!! Mutants are showing up! It ain't science fiction anymore, kiddies! and this kind of thing may be only a precursor of things to come. We all know about the mutations of wildlife... like five legged frogs and seven toed cats...mutations further down the animal chain from human apes...so why not us? It seems only logical that mutations are gonna turn up sooner or later... just like Jules Verne's subs! LOL

I love it NZ! A really plausible theorum! Jolly good!

I just read the Excalibur thread on comiX-Fan and the amount of negative bitching from readers who are saying that the plot is moving too slow and nothing is being resolved has both pissed me off and depressed the hell out of me...sorry for the colourful language. Wake Up Kiddies! not everything fits neatly into a trade paper back format. SOME people like a more complex plot. SOME people have the patience and attention span, not to mention the brain cells, to appreciate good story building. Everytime Chris gets a good title building the attention deficiency crowd shoots him down. I'm doomed to never have a good story from Claremont again, because the majority of the comic readers are too puerile to know a good thing. I think I'll go have a tantrum now.

colorful language? did anyone see color there? reds? yellows? greens? Purples? Did my blind eye miss it? blue? sobs..no ... sniffles...no...hmmmm..blues... a little jazz thrown in? Hmmm
LOL
Not a prob, Panz...it's just the babies who still think they can blackmail claremont into writing the way their miniscule minds want by saying if he writes thus and such they will LOVE him...PTUI! claremont will tell a real sotry and to hell with them. Maybe if they read a bit, they will understand how a real story is constructed...instead of "this happened..and then that happened... and you fill in the blanks!" But the little barstards are loud and obnoxious, aren't they? some of us actually gave their god a year and a half of chance to win us over... you'd think they could reciprocate, wouldn't you? Nah... they want it all their own way... selfish children. sooner or later they MIGHT grow up and learn something...like patience and the joy of complex storylines....where the storyteller actually tells the whole story while still leaving so many jump off points for imagination that the reader cannot help but be intrigued.
then again... they may be sadly stuck with a two year old's attention span all their lives.
Ignore them...step around them as one would a pile of doggie doodoo on the sidewalk...THAT really infuriates them. heheheheee...
They hate being ignored. Post your thoughts on the comics you like... or dislike... and then ignore their scurrilous comments. Yes, they will childishly call you names... and insult you and the moderators who should police this kind of thing will , like the puerile fanboys they are, not do their job with the name callers... but will snipe at you for disagreeing with the mindslaves. Ignore them too...you have a right to your opinion. The mindslaves have outyelled rational people who have fled the boards for quieter climes... with a modicum of courtesy and intelligent thought...like THIS forum...and specifically this little piece of intelligent heaven.. Cockrum Corner!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!
To bloody perdition with all of them! May their computers be formatted! May their towers topple! May their bowels misbehave...may the toilets overflow... may the plumbers be on strike!!!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!
Heard the latest stupidity from the children who refuse to look up canon? Now, Xavier, who CANNOT read Magneto's mind is CONTROLLING him! Ludicrous? You betcha... but that is the mantra, I am told. Personally, I don't have the time nor the masochistic urge to visit these boards...I would rather lounge here in Magnetoville and dream sweet dreams of the yummiest hunk in Marvel's stable! studmuffin! Panz, I have to agree. If that is colorful then what do you call my little swearing streaks?

And I find it very interesting Paty, that in the same demographics that we find these fanboys that we find the boys who:
  • cannot comprend the difference between a crit and a flame
  • cannot comprend that bullying is not "a part of growing up"
  • cannot-or will not-understand differing POV's
  • fail to understand "multiculturalism"
  • fail to consider the complex
  • dismiss OOC behavior as "cool"
  • want a return to the old black hat/white hat system.
Now, I'm not saying all of them are like this, but most like things simple. This I blame on people wanting brainless, thoughtless little people. My folks did. They about had a stroke if I had an independent thought as a child. Now, they just tell me I am wrong, will always be wrong, and need to grow up and see things "properly" (I.E. from their POV) Does this sound like a group we know?? It's not that they cannot argue, it's that "new" ideas threaten their view of the world so they must reject it. These kids remind me of that. Their view of the world is narrow to make it simple.

But, Paty, dear. They have already proven they don't give a shit about cannon. Why would they start now?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!
I may be OLD ... but I am not DEAD! yet...Dreaming sweet dreams of mags keeps the heart pumping at a furious rate! and you know something... I truely think that the youngsters cannot understand this fascination a lot of us women have for this character. His complexity is what tantalizes our minds and his hunkiness is what makes us swoon! THEY hould be so sexy! HA! no such luck!

I do believe the younger generation have a shorter attention span cuz they were raised on thirty second sound bytes! Short snappy commercials and sit com oneliners... and don't understand the joy of a complex thought or storyline! Really! they can only think in short unrealated bursts... which is why they like writers like Morrison.

Give me a real writer like Chris any day! Or Laurell... or Harlan...or Chelsea Quinn Yarbro... or Eileen Bergstrom...or ...let's see.. who am I reading now that isn't a comic book writer...LOL...Cornwell...and the guys tracing the histroy of the Templars in Holy Blood, Holy Grail...interesting book...And Boo wants me to read The HAAB theory... a book banned by the government and available as an especially ordered item. apparently details the breaddown of the natural world... that is actualy coming to pass faster than expected. a scarey book based in real life, apparently...can hardly wait to get her copy!

I wish I could read as fast and as easily as I used to... but I can only read so long and then the eye goes blurry and weird and gives me headaches... so my reading... which used to be voracious to the tune of three or four big books a week... is now sadly curtailed. It takes me forever to get through a comic.. with all the artsy fartsy coloring in the blurbs! Even Dave has trouble reading yellow printing on orange background! and some books are almost unreadable cuz the lettering styles are not sight immpaired friendly. In earlier times we tried to make the lettering big enough and clear enough for anyone to read it. But the computer crap has let the letterers get artsy fartsy and they take horrible advantage...not caring whether the lettering is viable or not... as long as it looks "cool" to their eyes...sigh... to hell with anyone out there with eye problems trying to actually read a story! I have actually skipped over blurbs that are illegible and colored badly to go to word balloons that at least are still black and white...high contrast that I can actually read... even if the lettering styles are kafungy.

Of course, the effort needed to read means i choose storylines and writers whom I know will give me something worth reding! I just don't have the time or eyesight for crap any more. Nor the patience! I used to have scads and scads of patience... but it went out the window when the eyes blew and everything became more difficult. the nightscrawler board is actually a balm to the eyes with it's dark background and light lettering. when people type in red, I skip those passages cuz there isn't enough contrast to read it easily... and the little red outlines around everything don't bother me as they do others, probably because I don't register the contrast in tonal values as much. When you have to stare with one eye into a screen from about an inch and a half away to read messages, you find this dark background/light lettering a wonderful rest for the eyes!

In any event.. back to topic... heh... studmuffin Mags! I think the boyos at marvel are infuriated that there are scads and scads of females out here that love this character...cuz they cannot hope to compete with him! And when you cannot compete with an imaginary character in a ..for God's sake...COMIC BOOK! ... you are a pretty sorry specimen! Plus the fact that Claremont made him Jewish... and Jewish characters can't be sympathetic! Goddess forfend! So you have the planned devolvement of the character... back to black and white hatville...PTUI!
thank all the forgotten gods for Claremont! I liked what Austen was doing with Juggy, too.. a very claremontian thing to do...giving a character depth and backstory embellishment! but I understand Austen has come out for Morrison's wretched view of Mags... so he goes down a whole big notch in my estimation. He can write commplex stories, though...which was a welcome break from ... well...you know who...LOL.

these days, the wait between Excalibur books is FOREVER! I haven't felt that way about comics in decades! Yay Chris! Write faster...dammit!

I was so pissed off, that I self edited out most of the filthy things I was going to say, but apologized anyway. :LOL:LOL
I'll have to go read more fanboy/girl idiocy and work up more spleen. ...That shouldn't take too long.
You forgot Gaiman on the list. And I've read the entire Holy Blood, Holy Grail book series and all of the others of it's ilk. The Templars have been a fascintaing subject to me since I was a little girl . I love all of the speculative history theories.

Claremont knows that I love his storytelling and I dump buckets of praise on him all the time.(Write faster, Chris!) It so royally pisses me off that the internet-bred and raised fanbrats are such a loud bunch and that they go off as if they knew what the hell they were talking about with all of the "This isn't the REAL Magneto, Bring back the real Morrison Magneto, or leave him dead" bull..."this story is going nowhere" It makes me want to throtle them.

This isn't an established title. Sure, there are long standing, established characters IN the book, but what Chris is TRYING to do is build a new direction, a new foundation from which to tell new stories, breaking "old" characters out of the expected mold takes time, foundations take time to build, layers of plot have to be laid and woven. Intrigues need to be threaded through out and left to lead us in new directions. The problem is the readers are used to issues being solved in a single episode of a cartoon, in a single Manga flick, in a single tidy issue of a tpb...they do not have the patience or attention span to sit through the building of a new beginning...I fear that this loud, immature constituate will sink the nascent title...now I'm just fretting.

Mags is delicious in his civies and if they could just see fit to dress him in faded button fly levi's I could die happy ...Nighty too...Oh heck, just send both lads over to my house next Saturday :naughty and we can play dress up ... :D ...there, I feel better already ;)

Lustful designs aside, Magneto has always been a powder keg of character possibilities. The skill with which Chris (Claremont) has developed him has left me at times in an anxiety of mixed emotions, both angry at Magneto for something that he's done and sympathizing with him as a person. Each layer of his past revealed bring this fascintating indivual more and more to life. To me, Magneto has always been a far more dynamic and intriguing character than Xavier, who while needful to the story, is actually rather dull. I find it utterly disrespectful to Chris as the creator of this masterpiece of complex characterization and to the character himself, to make little or dismiss, either his heritage or his past. I am anxious to see how he develops in the face of the destruction of Genosha, the political situation that he and his nation find themselves in and how all of these events have affected him. Will Mags rise above what has happened to him and become a more humane man? will these events harden him even more? I haven't read the latest one...still have to get to the comic shop. I'm all turned around on the release schedule too. *sigh*

Some day if I get over my shyness and can catch up with him, I'd love to chat with Chris about character creation and his thought on it. Being that he is my unwitting muse, it would be cool to see how he thinks on various story creation subjects...I don't care if I go on to become a #1 selling author or the queen of comics, I don't think I'll ever top the characterization of Mags.

Now I'll go back to drooling over Kurt in the last Uncanny *yum*

OK... what i am reding here is that I get sloppy thirds???!!! GIMME A BREAK!!! I may be old but I ain't DEAD! yet... they keep trying...LOL

Yes, Claremont's characterization of Mags is truely a masterpiece. I am appalled at idiots that try to take it back to the original two dimensional approach... for whatever inane reason they proffer. They rant and rave that characters have to advance and change with situations and time... liek Scott... and with the next breath they aver that Mags cannot grow and change and be developed as a character. They want him to be the essential maniacal demonic villain... ignoring years...no, decades... of character development by a master writer like Chris. The absurdity totally boggles the mind! And it also says volumes about the age, maturity and perception of the people involved in this blatant ignoring of cannon and character development.
sigh...

Yeah... Mags is yummy. sloorb... drool... But it is his complex characterization that grabs the mind and makes you want to get into his payche as well as his silk underpants! heh heh... you think anyone would have metal laced undies next to his tender parts? Mags may be a tough guy, but he is not stupid! LOL...

I think a lot of guys underestimate how much character and complexity of psyche means to the female libido. They think that macho behavior or a fancy car or lots of money is the key... and for some people it is. But for the female with a mind, complexity of psyche is the most delicious lure. Of course, beefcake doesn't hurt... and Mags is physically attractive and imposing... but it is the complexity of emotions, vunerabilities and strengths and their interplay within the man that grabs ya and wonn't let go!
And I think that this complexity gives younger writers pause. They want to use the character ... he is a powerhouse and a great character to play off the goody two shoes Xavier approach... but they cannot deal with this complexity of character. It SHOULD be the jump off point for wonderful stories, but for them, they don't understand enough of the motivations of such a complex makeup...so they don't know how to use the character to best advantage. So... they revert to simmplistic type... and say that the character development... that they SHOULD be thankful for and use to good advantage... never happened! It's back to simplistic two dimensional characterization that they can deal with and understand. and that is SOOOOO wrong!
Editors shouldn't let that kind of thing happen. if a writer cannot deal with the complexity of a character, he should not be allowed to destroy what someone else has done. He should build his own characterizations until he can understand and appreciate what was done with and to this other character... and only then be allowed to build on what is already there.

When H.P. Lovecraft died, his estate invited other writers to keep alive the Cthulu mythos... BUT ONLY if they wrote witin the established characterization and didn't destroy what t Lovecraft had already laid down as foundation,, characterization and tone. You BUILD ON existing canon... you dont tear it down! Especially if it is so well done.

Now, Hardass and company spent over a decade trying to tear down Magneto and really didn't succeed.. and Morrison seemed to succeed but crafted so badly that it was easy...if not child's play... to circumvent, redirect and retcon his puerile efforts. There are solid foundations, that, with the detrius of decades cleared away, can be readily built on again. That is what cCaremont laid down. More erudite editors and writers would have taken advantage of this to build even greater things. It is telling that they did not.

Mags is MINE!!! I do not accept sloppy thirds! I shall have to devise proper punishments for these two ...hmmmm

Uh-Oh... :LOL run Lady E!
Our mischief has been found out. Heeheehee...Ok ok Paty, you can have Mags all to yourself and at your tender mercies , so long as I get to oogle him to my heart's content... good thing they haven't found a way to tax mental letching hey? :naughty
I shall have Nighty to console me in my loss :D

Yeah...a lot of writers seem to go "OOO! Magneto would be fun to write!" and then freeze up on the diving board and never make the plunge. It's sad really, there are millions of possible angles for good juicy stories here, and so far most ewriters chicken out and revert back to the sterotypical psycho terrorist villain type. *sigh*

You are dead on though, nothing is a bigger lure to me then an intriguing psych... Even the physical appearance isn't nearly as important to me, and I think that is so for a lot of females, though a pleasing phisique, in it's many varieties, slim or muscular, stocky etc certainly doesn't harm matters. There are many sides to Mags and many character hooks to be caught by.. there is the hint of danger about him, the bad boy if you will, there is the hurt and lost child that he was and the horrors that he has lived through, there is the gentleman that he has made himself into, the hint of mad genious...many many facets to the gem. if the comic industry wants to attract more women , they are going to have to learn to balance good looking art and intriguing characters with enough action to please the action junkies and above all they are going to have to invest in good storytelling. Just my lil' ol un-asked for not-so-humble oppinion.

EDIT: And just whos bright idea WAS the metal laced undies?!?!?!?!? Have the they ever WORN metal laced clothing? I once, as a vain young thing, bought a lurex and REAL silver thread evening halter top...it cost a small fortune at the time and was sexy to look at, but was like being hugged by steel wool...I wore it once :X and ONLY once. Some guy wearing something that feels like brillo pads next to his naughty bits? I don't think so. That's just about as ridiculous as the chicks with the watermelon sized titties that stay pert and never fall out of the tiny scraps of fabric stretched across them. :P

WTF?! How the hell did I get stuck alone? And as I have said before Panz, I’ll risk Paty's wrath for Mags, and Paty, I promise to give him back....Just if you get him first....then I'm not going to get him at all....:puppy Please?

But yes, most guys underestimate the power a person's mind has on a woman's perception of him. As I have stated before--crazy villainous Magneto, while physically pleasing, would be just that. But Magneto under Chris became so much more.

And Panz, you are right. There is a lure about Magneto, his past, and the choices he must make, that’s draws me in. No small part of me wishes to protect him, wish to comfort him, yet at the same time I am in awe of what has been done. To show was resilience really is, to show what being human is despite others trying to take it away...That is the appeal Magneto has for me.

And yes, metal laced underwear cannot be comfy....ouchies....

In Uncanny 150, Dave had Mags blowing Storm out a window while his costume streamed from a hangar onto his body... establishing that Magneto's costume is made of metal laced fabric at the very least. and other writers and artists have continued the trend... showing light shimmering off his costume like it shimmers off his metal helmet. so one can only assume that somehow, there is metal interwoven into the fabric. Mags doesn't control organic stuff... at least not fabric... to my knowledge.
Now... the scenerio in UXM150 leads one to believe that mags sleeps in the buff... drool... but in UXM 274, we see him wearing sumo panties when Rogue wakes him up in the Savage Land. I just bet Jim lee drew him in the buff and they told him he had to put panties at least on him... so Jim put PANTIES on him! LOL...but i do not KNOW that for sure...just a hunch..LOL
BUT... it has been fairly well established that mags sleeps in the buff... and can mentally don his costume at a moment's notice... which is logical too. I figured that the costume would be laced with metalic thread rather than made completely of metal .. and if the fabric part of the costume is the unstable molecules... which would be susceptable to magetic manipulation...it could be fairly easily arranged as a liner of sorts. that leaves the undies in question. I am sure that in an emergency... such as Storm's supposed attack... he could do without them... but as a general rule i bet he wants luxury next tohis skin if possible. The privations of Auschwitz would have predisposed him to want to never have rough clothing next to his flesh again... simply because it would remind him of the prison camp.
I postulate that his earliest days in his father's house were formative... endowing him with an upper class mentality and appreciation for finer things and a sense of superior taste in decor and surroundings. His own innate intelligence would make him seek out comfort just because it is easier to live with it than not. And the memories of the stark privations and harsh conditions of the prison camps would push him into lush and fine surroundings as well as personal items... if just to deny and escape the memories he is sure to have and which we have seen haunting his nightmares.
we know mags suffers from post tramautic stress syndrome, survivors guilt and psychotic episodes generated by the days and nights in Auschwitz... and this vunerability and the strength with which he deals with his reactions is fascinating.... and a damn difficult thing for most young male writers to understand. most of them have never suffered this kind of trauma... they cannot even imagine it, much less comprehend it... so how can they write a character who is rife with it?! they cannot untilthey gain a little age and wisdom and life experiencei. The character of Magneto is a gem beyond price! Marvel has GOT to learn to take better care of it's treasures!!! Of which Magneto ... as Claremont has evolved him...is one!!!

Which brings me to my other constant and pervasive rant... Marvel does NOT want women in it's ranks as creators!!! Only as hangers on and bimboes! Maybe they will tempt them with a story here or a job there... but they have universally for decades... actually nearly half a century!!!... denied them the chance to create! To write and build a fandom for their talents... to draw and develop their aritstic talent. It is not that there are no female talents wanting to do superheor comics... there are plenty of them! but editorial at marvel...the Boy's Club... will not give them a chance! they promise everything and give nothing. The use and abuse... and then say "see? they're not interested in writing/drawing comics..." when the female finally wakes up, smells the jockstreap holding her down and leaves. I have seen it years ago and it hasn't changed one iota! Ever see a female on the top ten artists or writers? i can only remember one... Christina Z on Witchblade...once or twice. but she's not doing that any more... why not? the storytelling has degenerated into tits and ass crap since she left... and the art is worse...I swear, they have Pez's boobs so big that you need a mack truck to haul them down the street... they cast shadows so large they could eclipse the sun! Tsk... And they have a NYPD DETECTIVE wearing belly aring slut clothes!!! you think that would be allowed??? gimme a break! Detectives have to look professional... not like forty second street hookers! PTUI!!!
There has got to be a complete change of major editorial staff for any headway to be made in the introduction of females into the industry... at the very least! Especially at marvel! There are females out here that would do the books a world of good... but you will never see them given a chance... at least not in my life time... I will make book on it! Gals will try to get in and be given special treatment...until they wise up to being used and the fact that no matter how hard they work, they will not be allowed to succeed. They will be badgered off the books by having blockages, that the boys never have, thrown in their path. they will be edited to death and have storylines they wish to pursue hacked to pieces...not because they aren't valid storylines... but because the boyo editors dont' understand them and shoot them down so they woun't have to deal with something that they don't understand. They will have to sneak storylines past editors and then watch as the editors take credit for them when those same storylines become popular and generate fan support and rave reviews. How do I know these things? I watched it happen with a superior writer... Jo duffy. Where is she now? writing occasional stories for Claypool and making a living working in a bank or an insurance company or some such. and that is an obscenity because this writer is so far above the crap writers I have been reading in the last couple of years that it isn't even funny!
NO FEMALE CREATORS???!!! That is the veriest crock of shit I have ever heard!!! But i am not gonna hold my breath or hope to hang until i see a female creator on a major X book or anything closely resembling it... for any length of time! Not enough time to build a fan base to support her efforts, at any rate. An issue here or there... sure... give the bitches an issue then kick them to the curb where they belong... and let this hack writer who is a guy have a dozen issues to build a style and a fan base... and we'll hype him to the Max... so the idiot fanoys will know he is GOOD... cuz WE say so! And WE are the editoral GODS!!! BARF...BARF...BARF...

Oh... don't get me started!!!

:LOL:LOL:LOL Dammit Paty I love you! you're the best there is at telling it LIKE it is *hug* Don't ever change girl! I'll probably end up writing who-dunnits of the spooky grisley kind, but I won't give up trying to write. :p

:D Sorry to Dave for implying that he was a knucklehead for giving Mags metal in his clothes...perhaps with unstable molecules they can add the metallic elements on a much finer level and it wouldn't feel like wearing sandpaper...gotta love those frisky unstable molecules :naughty

And I bet you're right about Jim being told to put some panties on our lad...I wonder if there is an original, uncensored version out there somewhere??? :)
probably not, but it IS fun to think about.
