Nighty would never do that though... we have to think in terms of what Nighty would do, not can do.

Scott could always do what he did in Astonishing X-Men take off his visor.

I am not of the opinion that Wolverine sucks. (Beaubier may know diff, but he's not telling.) It doesn't bother me when other people dislike him, however: he's not my son. And he ain't Spidey. Don't nobody diss the arachnid around Elfdame, yo.
I like Wolverine because I can kind of identify with him. And because he's a great, typical conflicted tragic hero, mythology-wise. He has a longing for acceptance but can never quite fit in. He's a loner who wants to make a different mark in the world than the one he was assigned. And he loves Kurt, despite their basic conflict of worldviews. (You can tell I took waaaaay too much anthropology at university, back in the day.)
W's strengths/skills: adamantium, healing factor, enhanced senses, oriental warrior training, stealthy covert ops training, bloodlust rises to the forefront at times
N's strengths/skills: clever strategist, line-of-sight teleporter, incredible acrobatic skills, adhesive feet/hands, melts into shadows
I'm sure I've forgotten some of the items belonging in either list, but one could look at them and then decide which skills might be configured to trump the other's.
Ooooooh, Rowena ... I feel a Challenge in the making .... Who Would Win? OTOH, maybe such a challenge would end up with acrimonious feelings depending on folks' entries?

I don't want them to fight. The thought of it almost makes me want to cry.

I actually like that idea, except I wouldn't focus on who'd win but on the points for potential conflict and how they'd resolve them short of having Cyclops intervene as he had to IIRC back in Giant Size X-Men 1.

As I said
Scott could always do what he did in Astonishing X-Men take off his visor
That could beat all X-Men in one hit!

Maybe Rowena could leave it open-ended: some kind of duel between the two. So it could be a friendly wager, a duel over a chick, a Winding-Way-type scenario where one or both is posessed, an alternate timeline ... or even a verbal duel.
Rowena has written
some good stuff herself
in that vein.
Just a thought. Bandwagon, anyone?

A verbal duel? Kurt would win that one, hands down.

I am a Nightcrawler fan, but I am not stupid. Wolverine can regenerate and is nearly invulnerable. However, Nightcrawler is so awesome it hurts me to vote against him.
