Nightcrawler Solo Series Speculations and Comments

Post by Nightcrawler ZERO »

For some reason, the solicit that was posted earlier seems to conjure up a very dark atomosphere in my mind. It makes me a bit uneasy about this serious, because something inside me keeps saying "this calls to mind the brooding 'Crawler that we've been seeing for the past 5 years." So, my question is- do I have any reason to be this aprehensive, or does this series finally deliver a return to the fun character that Kurt once was?

I would wait and see it pan out.

There are some lighthearted moments in the first issue, but the series is going to be a dark drama, ALA the X-Files, but I don't think the darkness will be eminating from Kurt.

Hey Darick > Will there be a lot of spandex in this book or is it more a street-clothes kinda thing?
This message brought to you by the letter C.

You're welcome. :)

And same question as Crawler : Spandex or not ? -I'd prefer the "or not" : Logan, Ororo, Kurt and Rogue don't need costumes. You can recognize them all the time, they're quite unique. UNLIKE, for instance, Cap America, Hawkeye and Havok. Without their costumes, they're just the same guy, physically !!

Bit o' both. Street clothes when appropriate, spandex when necessary.

We're thinking of them like "work clothes".

I think Scott said it best when he said, "Sorry, Logan. Super heroes wear costumes."

I, for one, am very happy that the costumes are back, not that the leather was bad, but it came from the movie and that just should never happen. The movie should take stuff from the comic, not vice versa.

Darick,
I really like your preliminary sketches; it looks like you're going to do Nightcrawler justice. Although I like the way Davis drew him in Excaliber, I agree about the "Joker" jawline and I think his features were just too pretty under Davis. I like your rendition better. It looks as though you draw him with a very expressive face.
I am also glad this book will have a darker undertone. I wouldn't want to see one that just had him as the on-going comic relief.
I've been a fan since middle school, (about 20ish years) and I've always envisioned Nightcrawler to have a deeply introspective side to his personality that, most of the time, his teammates don't see, because he doesn't let them...preferring to be the fun one, or everyone's best friend. I'm glad to see that his personal life will take shape, inner thoughts and such.
The only thing I don't look especially forward to with the book is the likelihood of Amanda/Magick II/ Jemaine coming back as a love interest....given the Dr. Strange type storylines and her role as custodian of Limbo... I'd rather either see him single and flirting or with someone he had more chemistry with like Meggan (not that I'm a fan of ditzy blondes, I just liked the enjoyment of life, emotionally expressive aspect of her).

Thanks, Sundown.

I agree with you assessment about Kurt's character. I do want him to have an expressive face, like I tried to show in Wolverine #6.

However, that specualtion about Amanda/Magick II/ Jemaine coming back is not based on any reality of what we're developing.:?

That's very good to hear. I certainly didn't mean to make assumptions. I was just going with the supernatural undertones, dark theme aspect... I remember Nightcrawler being in the very dark Magick II mini-series awhile back.
Ah well, you know what they say about assuming.... heh :oops
So my concerns have been laid to rest; thank you.

I can't wait to see the series.
I'm glad to see that he'll be in good hands, and he'll even have a life other than just being an X-man...ah the sweet satisfaction of character development.

See, for being done in 5 minutes, that's decent. Give Darick a few hours, and you end up with something like this:

Granted, this was done in San Diego 5 years ago...the one major difference I've noticed is that the 2004 Kurt is a bit thinner. Still...when I asked Darick to sketch NC at SDCC, I could tell he was a big fan of Kurt...I was wondering why he wasn't here yet. :P
5 years has made a big difference in my art style, for sure.

Also, what I sell someone at a con and what I do in my sketchbook and what I do for publishing are 3 different results guaranteed, just as one preparing a sandwich for a friend, or a sandwich for themselves and a Thanksgiving meal are three different results.

Cover art for #1 of the Nightcrawler series is floating around the web today (marvel sept. previews).

It can be seen w/ the marvel september shipments at comiX-fan, toonzone, and a few other sites.
Dave, your creations brought joy to my life and inspired my imagination. R.I.P.

Not a bad cover.
But the hair is... weird.

So far, I prefer Darick's version of the character.

Anyway, I'm happy ! Now it's official ! :)

That (Nightcrawler #1) is the worst cover I've seen yet this year. It's just... awful. All mismatched... nothing goes together... it looks like the head isn't even on the shoulders right. It's jarring.

At least it's just the cover. And the Wolverine cover reinforced my faith in Darick. Yay!

I don't want to be negative or anything - and I've really liked the sketches I've seen of Darick's so far - but...in that Wolverine cover, what's with Kurt's tail? It looks like it's bigger around than his wrist, and possibly even his forearm. Is this the way we will be seeing it in the solo?

oh thank goodness i thought i was the only one who saw that with the tail! i mean i know that many artists have it all kinds of lengths, but all kinds of thicknesses too? a bit of Momma Mystique's DNA showing perchance?
