It seems Darick Robertson will begin to draw issue one next month.

September seems SO far away !
It reminds me how much I've been waiting for Movie-Kurt !

Oh, thank you Dark Stalker ! Nice interview of Darick.

Hey, have you seen these new pics ?? They're just awesome !! :shocked

I really don't understand why our dear Bamfette and Crawler haven't expressed themselves about this upcoming series. It's just "a dream come true" !:)
... But perhap's they're too busy with their Heahthen Sent series right now...

Me, I couldn't be happier ! I try to wait and see, but my enthusiasm is too strong ! :bamf:bamf:bamf

Hey all,

I've been seeing a few of you over at my forum at DarickR.Com

Just want you all to know I love this character as much as you all do, so he's in good hands.

I was even dressing up as Kurt for Halloween back in 1984.

the first script is in and quite good.

I hope you all enjoy, and thanks for your enthusiasm.

Darick :D too cool :)

and Diablo - just him having a series isn't a dream come true. sorry, but i am going to have to see it before getting too excited. It's certainly not BAD.... it could be fantastic. and i have been a fan of Darick's art since Transmet. never read anything by the writer though, so i can't say anything there. but just Nightcrawler starring (and cool art ;) ) doesn't make it good.... the concept hasn't sold me. it sounds to me like they are making him into a Hellboy ripoff. I love Hellboy, he's a very cool character. but so is Kurt, and for different reasons than Hellboy. he's unique and interesting all on his own (though i admit there are similarities.... but they aren't identical) it would be a shame to just have him aping some other character. but i will totally give it a try, i could be mistaken.

I gotta say that the first script reads straight up X-men, not a "Hellboy" or any rip off at all.

The only connection is the paranormal element.

okay, well, that's something ;) I'm not wanting to be a wet blanket... I will read the first issues with an open mind. i am just more skeptical about it all, not one to get excited at the mere mention of a solo series...

Hey, Darick is here ! Welcome ! A Scrawlers dance for Darick !
:dance:dance:dance
That, and Bamfette and Crawler are finally awake ! Will wonders ever end ?? ;)

Seriously, I don't think this series will be a "Hellboy ripoff". Kurt has too much history to become someone else. I totally trust the artists on this one.
Still, the magical side of it can only make me happy. And Kurt has ALWAYS been in contact with magic -his stepmother Margali, Amanda Sefton, Belasco, Doc Strange -okay, just once...-, now Azazel,...
It's only logical that he has been chosen to be the paranormel expert of the X-Men. The role suits him well.

Other pics look great without any oddness though.
It's a quick sketch from my sketchbook that I colored. That 'boob' was only supposed to suggest the fold at the armpit. :rolleyes

The fold of his shirt is bigger than my chest. :shame ;)
Well, he is a muscular guy, after all.

Please don't judge the five minute sketch too harshly. Notice the whole thing is pretty rough. None of what's been posted has been submitted for publishing, it's just a sketch.

See, for being done in 5 minutes, that's decent. Give Darick a few hours, and you end up with something like this:

Image

Granted, this was done in San Diego 5 years ago...the one major difference I've noticed is that the 2004 Kurt is a bit thinner. Still...when I asked Darick to sketch NC at SDCC, I could tell he was a big fan of Kurt...I was wondering why he wasn't here yet. :P

Hey Darick,

Welcome aboard. I wanted you to know how much I really enjoy your interpretation of Kurt. :D

There is only one thing that bothers me. Does he ever smile? I would hate to see Kurt’s wonderful smile go away for good. I don’t know if I can deal with any more totally angry, angsty Nightcrawler.

The original solicitation that was issued a few weeks back had Greg Land as the Cover Artist.

... Looking to see if I can google any info...

He did work on DC's Nightwing and CrossGens's Sojourn..

Here's the only link I could find

Not me. Sorry BAMFcentral. I don't know this gentleman.
Darick's covers would be terrific. I like the Wolverine ones.
The only problem with the Wolvie title right now is that you read every issue in less than five minutes ! (and english ISN'T my first language)

But I know Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa uses more words than Greg Rucka ! :D

Random bits to fill in the gaps...

In addition to Transmetropolitan, Born, and Wolverine, Darick also worked on New Warriors, taking over for Mark Bagley (who at that time went to Amazing Spider-Man, and has since gone on to Ultimate Spider-Man). I don't know why everyone skips over this...I mean...Speedball!

Greg Land is probably best known for his work on Sojourn. He has a very clean, emotional style...I would put in somewhere in between Kevin Maguire and Jackson Guice...maybe Stuart Immonnen. He had a pretty decent run on Nightwing, and another decent run on Birds of Prey (still my favorite of his stuff). While I do wish Darick were doing the covers, I can cope with Greg.

And Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is currently working on the Marvel Knights 4 series, which I enjoy. The MK 4 was originally going to be the standard Fantastic Four series after Mark Waid was booted, but luckily Waid was invited back, and they decided to turn Aguirre-Sacasa's scripts into 4. It's still early in the run, but he's definitely in touch with the "human" aspects of the FF.

I split all the Off-Topic bits off into their own thread: viewthread.php?tid=4288

Darick > Can you tell us how tied to the current books the Nightcrawler solo will be? Will it be more like Wolverine or will it be dependent on what Claremont is doing in Uncanny?
This message brought to you by the letter C.

Oh, thanks for the info guys! Now lets wait for a cover preview.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, where is he from? is he a new writter? Drew says he is working in Marvel Knight series, i would like to read a bit of his work, to check his style. Sorry for all the questions but i've been away from comics for a loooong time now.

:kiss Sorry, I know it's just a sketch. Don't judge my harshness too harshly. ;) If I weren't overly critical and negative, I would fade away to nothing.

I really am very excited about the project, and I think the sketches look AMAZING. I wouldn't want any other artist on the book.

He is the new kid on the block, as it were. Here's an interview with him about the MK FF book and his background (he talks a bit about horror comics):

Another comics-based interview, pretty much JUST about 4:

And here's one that focuses more on his playwright experience (but still goes into comics):

Thanks, I appreciate that.

Marvel and I both just wanted to get some images out there with the announcement, so I just scanned what was in my book.

I'm still surprised when this stuff gets the attention that it does!

Waow, Darkholme. You're like an encyclopedia ! :)

Darick, one can see through these sketches that you're searching for the perfect Kurt.
I think you've just found it with the last ones -when he's wearing that cool trench-coat -very TV-Angel-looking, as Bamfette pointed out.

As for the ties between the Nightcrawler series and Uncanny X-Men, I guess they won't interact too much, just like the Wolverine title and the other X-books.
Still, it will be cool to see Kitty, Logan and co as guest-stars.

Off-topic : I know why Logan is in every X-team and still has time to wander off alone.
He's got Jamie Maddrox powers. That's right : he's the Multiple Wolf-man !

I'd like to see Kurt getting these powers too ! :D

Hey, thanks for adding me to that signature! I'm now in mighty company! ;)

I can't say too much about the series as I'm being good, but I will say, the X-men will be involved and they will interact.
