Kurt's leaving the priesthood? When? Why? What issue? I've actually only just started reading Uncanny, beginning at no. 407!

Why did I not hear this before? I KNEW something sus was going on!

I don't think Kurt should leave the priesthood. I don't know why, but I think Father Wagner is a good character.

Congrats on pointing those out, N/Zero.
actually it started since X-men #100, when Claremont returned to the x-books *trying to hold the urge of grabbing some sausages*

He's out of character (so to speak).
Vala: "Hello."
Daniel: "What the hell are you doing here?"
Vala: "Isn't this my room?"
Daniel: "Noooo… your room is across the hall… with the… guard in front of it."
Vala: "Ah yes, they do all rather look alike don't they? Anyhow, Since I'm here, shall we make the best of it?"
Daniel: "No, we shalln't."

I was one of the sad saps who got into x-men many many many years ago when a friend made me watch the animated series. Her brother then showed me his comic book collection. I already loved Nightcrawler and I *coff* stole *coff* his Excaliber comics (hey, he only had four...and like thousands of others!) .
Anyway,(Kay, with a jolt, realises that she's rambling) I hate the whole priest thing and I also thought it was pretty inevitable because of the whole monk thing in his fisrt apearance in the verdammt cartoon. I will be so much of happy if he returns to the old swashbuckling rogue he used to be.
I wrote to Marvel complaining about how dull he's become. Our elf does not suit a

I agree with the others, go read some Excalibur before you say you like prist Kurt... *sigh* fond memories.... he was SO COOL back then! not all whiny like he is now.

anyway, Chuck Austen is having him leave the priesthood between issues 417 and 420. first, he said this in an interview:
CA: Nightcrawler's religion takes a big role in the first year, and comes to a spectacular head that will shock and anger people with any deep-seated religious convictions. It's going to be awesome, and completely logical within the continuity that's been established.

CWN: The "Church of Humanity" is a story line that Joe Casey left intact when he left, does this mean you have plans?

CA: Oh, do I have plans. I would have just let it go, but this damn continuity thing seems to upset folks so much if you ignore it completely. The Church will play an important role in an upcoming story with Kurt that explores the nature of his choice to become a priest. It has some surprising aspects to it that should please and shock long time fans. It will bring an end to the Church storyline that Casey left dangling. Of course, if my sales drop out of the top 25, Casey will be back telling his version, so stay tuned.
then he came out and said straight out:
417 to 420 is Warren dealing with Betsy's death, Kurt's goodbye to the church, and the the deeper meaning of what evolution is, and it's purpose is for the planet earth. Not a happy-go-lucky story in the least, as Warren says a painful good-bye, and Kurt deals with some anger about his chosen calling.

so he shall be leaving the priesthood very shortly, actually... and in a way that will 'shock and anger people with any deep-seated religious convictions.' iiiinteresting.... so who's up for some speculation on what that means? :smirk:

speculations? that's hard, maybe the supreme pontiff has to do something about it,
one thing i didn't like it, in fact it kinda upset me, it was the icon series, i mean i like the plot a little and i loved the art, but it was a nonsense intransigent history without repercutions in the character.

...see i don't get that. you admit to liking the art and plot, but because it had no reprocussions, it was bad? i never really got that point of view, though it seems to be one many people have... it baffles me. as far as i am concerned so long as i am enjoying it while i am reading it, it's good, and that is all that matters. not like you could have expected anything form it... except for Chamber, none of the Icons series would ahve been able to change the characters in any way because they can't step on the toes of the writers of the books the characters star in.

anyway. Chuck said he would be dealing iwht the CoH, so i think it has SOMETHING to do with that. the CoH seems to be based in Catholosism, so i am thinking that specifically plays a role

I think I know what you mean. You did enjoy them but there was a little something missing...
I personally didn't really care for the NC icons, particularly the page art. I didn't even buy them.:P

Well, I've read the original Nighty sreries, and I've fallen in love with Swashbuckling Nighty, but now I cant choose.

Please, no more sausages?

I don't have any Excalibur issues, But I intend on sneaking back down Hinley St and going to that other comic shop to pick some up, as well as checking out the markets, I heard theres some there.

I didn't read X-Men #100, I've read #101 to #112.

Omigod! I gotta get those issues you mentioned, Bamfette!!! *checks wallet. crap, no $$$. well, now its saving time. adds those issues to list of what comics to buy*

Wait, are those in Uncanny X-Men? Or a different title? (I'm new to buying comics and am still figuring it out :shame: )

Yeah, I'd say they're all Uncanny.

The Essential X-men volumes are great for getting to know classic Nightcrawler as well. Each one collects aound 25 consecutive issues for about $15 (US). This comes at the sacrifice of color, but otherwise it's a great deal. The Essential X-Men (vol. 1-4) start with Giant Size X-Men #1 (1975), and continue until about 1983-ish.

On a side note, There's also the Essential Uncanny X-Men vol. 1, Collecting issues 1-24 of the original series, but that obviously has no nightcrawler.

the ones i was talking about are Uncanny, and they ahve not been released yet. they are only on 414 right now...

to see Kurt at his swashbuckling best either the Essential TPB's or Excalibur is your best bet. either very early Excalibur by Claremont (#1-20 something), Davis's run(4...6?- somewhere), or Ellis (early 80's-102 or 3)

unfortunatley, Excalibur is not collected in any TPB's.

Ja! Nothing worse than a badly drawn Kurt. Glad things are improving in Uncanny. (Also glad I that there seems to be no more collar!)

May we should found the"Against badly drawn Kurt club?"
Ok this is a little hard but sometimes I feel like that...
NO MORE COLAR...thats great and if he scares someone with his fast decision. In my eyes he showed only that he is consequent.
Better for him. And at least better for the Church...am I right?
The Pyramid over Egypt links with the Pyramid
of Time and Illusion. It is run by I, Thoth or
Hermes, the Trickster and Master of the Game.

I'm not part of Keep the Collar Kurt Club. I'm not in Lose the Collar Kurt Club either.

But can I be in the Against Badly-Drawn Kurt Club? It is a turn off after all seeing him done REAL bad.
