Can anyone tell me if anything important has happened to Kurt since he took over the Morlocks? I mean, things that aren't of a "Kicked bad guy in the teeth" nature. Any important character development? Resolution of old issues?
Also- if anyone can tell me any important post 83 issues I might want to pick up, that'd be awesome. I'm thinking of writing some Ultimate-verse fiction.

I must say Kurt looks stylin' in that brown suit. Who does not love a sharp dressed man?:lick And it's also good to see Erol Flynn back. I love it when they do stuff like that.
okay...That's all.

Kurt in Uncanny X-men #495 is the best Kurt I've seen since Cockrum. At least what little we get of him. Not cheesy, not whimpy, just laid-back, cheerful, stylish and cool. And he and Logan playing pranks on each other is just the way it should be. A much-longed-for change of pace from the grim, gritty and charmless version of Logan we've seen all too much of lately.
Now, if Kurt's cane was revealed to hide a sword, it would be perfection.

Oh, yeah. And I hope he's up to fencing again sometime soon. If Scalphunter's hurt him too badly, someone should be out for Marauder blood!

I dunno that there is that much left of the maurders, quite frankly. I think the blood has already been reclaimed.

I'm going to have to disagree with you Love_o_ Bob.
He gets a few good cameo moments and you want to say that this is better than alan davis excalibur Kurt? it's def. better than what we've seen in quite awhile (sad considering that this is for only a few pages) but he's had some good moments since Cockrum. At the very least (not counting Davis Excalibur) there was a solo story in X-men Unlimited by Bill Willingham (Fables) that's pretty cool.

Oh, the Willingham one is totally one of my FAVES. I have read it like fifty bazillion times. Wish I could write that well. And then the poignant ending. Aaaaaah *deep sigh of affection for the author's skill* So many great quotes ... that's how I found that issue; someone here quoted from it extensively.

I'm not saying there haven't been good versions since Cockrum. I've found something to love in most writers' and artists' take on Kurt - Bru's being an exception up until this latest issue, because a more drab version there never was. *shudder*Originally posted by Entropy

I do love Davis' version, but Cockrum's version remains my favorite, at least at the moment. The main difference, I think, is that Cockrum's version had such a laid-back and easy-going feel to him. Davis' version was fiery and strong and pure sex on long, gorgeous legs, but sometimes he came off as a bit cheesy and stilted by comparison.
What we see of the Kurt in Uncanny #495 has the ease, the cheer and the hint of mischief that Cockrum infused him with. He's not cheesy, he's distinct, but not over-the-top.
The art may also help - Tan is really no good at visual characterization. Choi does a much better job.
I loved Willingham's take as well, but that was a very cartoony version that worked well for a one-shot, but I don't think I would like to see Kurt written that way in the long run.
I also liked Rucka's take on him in his Wolverine run and the drive and confidence he had in Casey's run (although there he was also a bit too uptight and stilted).

ok, so...*braces herself*
does anyone have a moment to tell me WHAT is going on with the fuzzy one? I haven't picked up an issue since...oh since before house of M, and I haven't heard about this apparent Kurt-takes-over-the Morlocks.
sorry, I'm a little behind::cry
But i do know enough to say that YES, love of bob, Cockrum's Kurt is my favorite too (rest his soul)

Kurt takes over the Morlocks in Ultimate X-Men. Completely different universe. You're not really that out of the loop.

Phew! Good. The Morlocks, though? Um, ok. I dropped Ultimates after the first issue, I just couldn't keep track of the different universe.

I just read Uncanny #496 and I thought it was pretty good, with exellent art and strong characterizations. Recommend. Also, ClanDestine #2. Is there anybody else here who reads that? And yes, there is crawlage in it...

Yes. Much love for choi. It was a nice little story, and it was great to see the characters relating like that.
But the best was choi. That art was delicious.

Loved that Willingham Unlimited issue as well!!
Kudos for posting the link. Liked this little passage from the interview...
"THE PULSE: What appealed to you about giving Nightcrawler the spotlight?
WILLINGHAM: The swashbuckler angle. Most of the X-Men are (or have been written in the past as) such a collection of whiney, morose bastards, that we thought it would be a nice change of pace to focus on a character who not only knows what he's doing, and why it is worth doing, but is actually capable of having some fun doing it.
"
Got a nice little giggle outta that ...lol!
Oh and I am most definitely reading the excellent (can we expect anything less from Davis?) CLANDESTINE limited series ELWING!
As a rule I buy pretty much whatever Alan Davis is currently working on. I couldnt help but smile at the little Excalibur "Cameo" in the 1st issue! Suffice to say I almost squeeled like a school girl when I saw the cover for ish number 3!!
How awesome is it that a creator as respected and insanely talented as Alan Davis has such an obvious love for our favorite X-man...?
BAMF!

I am getting the ClanDestine series also. That and Uncanny are, IMHO, the best books out there right now, art and story-wise. I'll be getting Ultimate again as well, now that Kurt is back. I'm hoping the stories will be good.

is not back on the team, just back and doing stuff. He battled apocalypse with them, which was pretty cool. Though he made a point to disassociate himself with the X-men saying "My first objective is to help my people, once that's settled then I'll come to the surface and see what I can do..."

He's not on the team just more active again. They're gonna be doing more with the morlocks now. He's always going to be "welcome" it's just...a love for the morlocks and a love for his family/friends y'know? I think he's gonna get torn between the two and they're leading up to legacy virus I think so....

In Uncanny X-men #498, Kurt electrocuted himself to free Wolverine (and, by extension, himself and Piotr) and with that, we say goodbye to his flat hairdo:

Is anyone else wondering how well Kurt is feeling physically after having had a hole blown through him, fallen from a flying Sentinel and landed on Logan and now been electrocuted? Will someone please give him a break?:
