As for me...

Got a phonecall. Foster grandad's gone from sitting up in hospital (had a fall lasst week, broke his hip and had a nasty chest infection) to a heavy coma. They reckon he's had another stroke and that he's very, very unlikely to wake up.

I'm heading to Plymouth for an indetermite time, basically for a last vigil, waiting for the inevitable and then helping with the funeral and such.

Shit end to a shit week.

It sounds nasty, but we're kinda hoping he doesn't. He's got dementia, as well as Parkinson's, Hodgkin's Lymphoma and all the rest of it and really, it would be a blessing.

Still, it's painful. Even for me, the newest addition to the family, who hasn't known him that long, you know?

It takes a moment to say hello, an hour to get to know someone, and a lifetime to say goodbye. it doesn't matter how long you've been in the family, he's still family and that's hard. But, I understand what you mean about it being a blessing. It was like that with Ann.

Lost my flash drive. That thing damn well better be at home. I'm screwed without it. It has all my stuff on it.

I only have my laziness to thank for not losing the actual final exams. Can't lose what you haven't bothered to make yet! The review papers would really help with that though. Also I have to do a review class today. I can get by without my flash drive, but I have to half-ass it.

*adds "make back-up copies of everything" to the list of stuff I will do different next term*

My flash drive is found but not working. It makes a noise when I plug it in and I can find it in device manager, but it doesn't show up in any programs to let me use it. Uh oh.

OH JOY! I woke up this morning to a loud commotion: the effing water heater BROKE and leaked all over everywhere. The walls, the floor, the everything. Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick. I had to play phone tag with half of my co workers to see if they could cover my shift today while I wait for the repair dude to come out.

A family friend passed away today. He was close with my entire family on my mom's side. His grandkids are extended cousins of mine and he was like a second dad to my mom.

*hugs* thanks. he's been battling lung cancer for a LONG time. my Papa (mom's dad) had wanted to give him a lung but he was doing treatments at the time for brain cancer, so couldn't. That was when I was 4... so it's been going on a while. He's at peace now.

The coffee shop is playing horrible indie-sounding music today. Like that band, what are they called, I don't remember but it's grating on me. Bloc Party? They're from Montreal or something.

Also I lost a small piece of my mind. It's small, but it was kind of an important part and now everything is shifting around up there. It's unsettling. Even things that shouldn't be affected are not quite right. I was in class, giving a final exam and I looked out the window and thought "What? How did I get here?" Not how did I get to class (walked up the stairs), or get to work (on the subway), or get the job in the first place, or how I got out of bed that morning, but everything together. Followed by "oh my god, I wrote the final yesterday" because I freaking forgot I'd written it or something even though it was the same test the students were doing right at that second. It just seemed miraculous that I'd written it and printed it and not slept in and everything was on schedule. "How could this have happened?" Bizarre confusion.

My roommate is on vacation and while it's nice to have the place to myself and I hardly see him anyway I woke up today and the house felt so empty.

And it's official. The doctors don't think my grandmother will be able to attend her second granddaughter's wedding. Terminal cancer of an apparently very quickly metastasizing kind.

To think that only a few weeks ago, as she talked me through my difficulties decorating my son's birthday cake, she only complained about "feeling a bit tired."

And to tell the truth, I worry that, her being in Oregon, she could "give up" before I have a chance to get over there for another visit.
