this coffee tastes astounding!

Post by Starfish »

It snowed last night and this morning, and apparently the plows decided that some roads could do without any clearing. So, turning a corner on my way to work, I was surprised by a slippery downward slope and ended up turning 180° at a rather high speed. Why this endeded up in the astounding thread? Because by sheer probabiltiy, I should have ended up totalling my car, but by a stroke of luck actually managed to hit that one tiny spot next to the road that didn't lead to a drop-off down the hill. Somehow, I managed to get out of this without so much as a scratch on my car.

Woo Star! Lucky! We're supposed to get snow later tonight...

I may be getting hate mail, but Typo is loved. ><

Sara wrote a little column titled "I can has catnip?" in our holiday guide and people have been bringing him toys all week! One woman even made him a little stocking, complete with a sewn-on yellow tabby face!

Here's to fantastic opportunities. Close friend who wouldn't come out to me got some nail polish and manicure stuff for my daughter. "She'll love it. I think she'll like it better doing nails with you, though, because," I said, showing my own short, bare nails, "it's more your cup of tea than mine, anyway."

"So you figured it out."

That's how we broke the ice, and the following conversation, putting the kibbosh on all that secrecy and misunderstanding, took a huge weight off our shoulders.

This astounding post goes out to the people I work for/with.

I work in a Program called scoutreach, it is a Boyscout organization that provides Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts to inner city children at a reduced cost or completely free.

19 hours ago we were informed by one of my fellow program aides that one of the scouting families he works with will have nothing for Christmas because they can't afford presents and to have shelter and food. Within those 19 hours our Scoutreach managed to get 2 boys (one boyscout; 6-12th grade, and one cubscout;1-5th grade) and their 2 sisters presents to open on Christmas day. The program aides are in no way shape or form related to this family but they gave from their hearts and wallets to help them out, and most of the program aides I work with are in the same situation as these families. To sum it up they give to others even when it's hard for them to give to themselves.

Please let this inspire you to give even just time to someone in need.

Mr. Ange got me board splints (for broken limbs), ballistic-tested sunglasses (for extrication work), and shells (for my 20 gauge). You'd think after so many years of marriage he'd learn just what kind of gifts this woman likes... and of course he did! :love

I'm exhausted from a great Christmas weekend. Family pulled through and I made the girlfriend scream with glee when I surprised her with Gotham City Sirens TPB #1 and X-Men: Legacy featuring Emplate.

Oh, and the Barnes & Noble "Science Fiction Classic" American Gods/Anansi Boys dual-book, hardcover edition.

She now has been tasked with finding me the Jurassic Park/Lost World B&N Sci-Fi Classic, Dual-Book, hardcover edition.

Also, alcohol is my muse.

Woo for good Christmases for everybody!

Scotty Prime got me a diamond anniversary band for our 10-year this year. Is purty. Of course, I then forgot to wear any of my rings to work today. :/

Had an awesome Florida family vacation. Highlights included a little theme park madness, swimming in the Atlantic, signing copies of Untold Stories for a few soldiers who were flying out to Afghanistan, and visiting the best comic book shop in the entire Orlando area, where I was given an honor normally reserved for much more distinguished comic book creators like Mark Waid, Ethan Van Sciver, Darick Robertson, Will Eisner, etc. I got to autograph the bathroom wall.

Family Video, which will be nice. I can't imagine it'll be overly hard, and it's close to the house.

Well, it took about a week, but I'm back up and running. Well, not running. That still kills my foot, which will take a while longer to properly heal. But it felt very nice to be able to eat and work out without any nausea or dizziness. And at the rate my foot is healing, I might even be able to get in a dance or two at my brother-in-law's wedding.

A mile on the eliptical yesterday, and a circuit workout with some moderate-high impact aerobics today with only enough pain to qualify as a minor annoyance.

... and with the lab results looking good, we've got a pretty clear idea of what caused last weekend's medical emergency- and that it was the least worst case scenario. The daughter is also feeling well enough she thinks she can handle this weekend's craziness- her uncle's wedding!

I've been active on my local city's 'random acts of kindness' webpage. I've donated some clothes to needy families and am gathering up a bunch of toys for a little girl who's moving to town with very little.

It feels so damn good to help and see what other awesome things people are doing. Lifts you up.
