Scott got a new job! With a decent salary! And benefits!
I actually enjoyed spending a few days in the office too - not only is it a little much-needed money, but it was a break from all these new responsibilities.
Also, since we have been and will be helping my dad for the next six months at least while he's recovering from his accident, he is paying off our hospital bill for Kiley's delivery.
Woot!

Despite fearing revenge and feeling bad for elbowing him in the head, there's so much mocking to be done. As in... I can go, "MATT! WHY DIDN'T YOU DODGE?!"

I suppose this is kind of ass-tounding, depending on how you look at it. I hated my old job, though it would be more accurate to say I liked the work but hated the hours and our chaotic office and my asshole boss. And now, I have my old job back. Only not quite. ><
My old boss asked me to come in to talk to him today and basically said he needed help because my replacement wasn't what he expected. I absolutely did quit my editor's position of my own free will because there was no way in hell I was working 14-16 hour days with a baby, but early in my pregnancy last year he had told me I could probably just change positions and work part-time as a reporter. Then later in my pregnancy he reneged and told me he wouldn't be needing me in the office anymore after the baby was born. I was super pissed off, went for blood when I quit, tape recorded all conversations and got every penny of vacation and sick time I was due. I then went ahead and freelanced for him, after I demanded and got a higher fee for my articles.
So, as you can imagine it was extremely satisfying for him to eat crow right to my face saying he needed help. He then asked if I would come back, at my old salary, and work two days a week in the office and cover meetings. I'm already doing meetings on a freelance basis and have been since eight weeks after Kiley was born. I'd just be doing them for more money again.
I wouldn't have to work 14-hour Tuesdays anymore and I wouldn't have to write obits and community relations and bulletin board and all that crap -- I'd be doing only news reporting, copy editing and pagination.
I said yes. It's what I wanted in the first place, so guess who got the last laugh.

Way to go, Slarti!
My news is kind of ass-tounding, too. Street festivals, a community barbecue, a parade, and... my first call that involved an airlift.

Making another attempt at the fire combat challenge this weekend. I've also begun making inquiries as to "riding along" with a local air rescue service.

Related to the ass post I made the other day: I had to sell my ticket for the open air festival I meant to go to because of a bad hip, but with the festival being sold out, I managed to get 190 Euro for it on ebay while it had cost me 120 to buy.

We're staying at the inlaws' house tonight to avoid our hot house, but the astounding part about that is that they're going to babysit so we can go out tonight. We're going to our first movie out at the theater for over a year. We're gonna go see Cap.
Kiley also got to meet her little cousin, Mason. He's just five weeks old, but she held his hand. Twas cute.
Also, we get to sleep on a real bed tonight instead of on an air mattress in my mother's living room! In a real bedroom, with a TV and internet!

Good news: Not only did I meet a fellow WoWer in the assessment, and she was Horde, but I seem to have found a nurse who is taking my wing and helping me fight my corner, as the doctor I saw - after hearing the circumstances, seeing the damage I'd done and the fact I don't feel safe in myself as well as testimonials from the other assessors about me being a danger - was basically 'no drugs, have a home-care team you can phone 24hrs a day, apart from that you're on your own'. The nurse 'strongly disagreed' (her words) and has taken on my care herself.
Upshot is? Though I have to see her every day, and I cannot have my tablets as someone's finally paid attention to the fact I have an OD history, I have someone who is going to visit me and keep me going, giving me targets to get to and who has fought for me to get the proper treatment.
Oh, and the best part?
Though there is still a very good chance I may be, this might just keep me out of being sectioned, if it turns out to help.
Bit of a bittersweet astounding, but still...I'll take anything that comes my way

My alcoholic/drug addict friend is finally seeking help.
After his "Friends" let him get into his car and back it up into a phone pole (totaling it) after his birthday celebration he realized three things.
1) He has shitty friends who will let him drive drunk to work at 3 AM to get sleep in his car until work at 7. (and the fact that he was still drinking by 3AM shows another problem.)
2) He could've killed someone. A person he dealt to just hit a girl and got 30 to Life. He doesn't want that on his conscience.
3) He's not thrilled at the idea of, after (and if ) he did hit someone, the prospect of 30 years in prison would be his life. (Mind you -- he knows that's selfish in comparison to hitting/killing someone, but it's still a valid enough reason to sober up.)
So, he's sought a counsellor, decided he is (unfortunately) returning to school up North simply to finish the semester, then he'll be coming home again. He's getting counseled help up at school.
I'm crossing my fingers and reminding him how he needs to do this, but I'm also not holding my breath.
I told him this is his last shot.

I was getting off a freaking awesome ride at the fair when I injured my ankle.
Edited for the update - Ankle is only badly sprained, which most say is worse than breaking it, but I'm glad it's not broken.

Though I vaguely alluded to this in the "Untold Stories from Iraq and Afghanistan" thread, I'm one of the creators at Wizard World Chicago! I'll get to meet a whole bunch of the other folks behind this book in person!

I'm back at work in the office.
It's good and bad at the same time, and so is this - when I came in this morning assboss had a meeting with me and my replacement basically saying I'm returning to the assistant editor position... and she's staying assistant editor too. We're both the assistant editor!
Makes no sense, but hey, I get to keep that title on my resume so whatever!
