Post by NachtcGleiskette »

I LOVE showtunes. And I'm always looking for more, awesome showtunes. So, here's a thread to share our favs!

Today, I am digging:

Johanna (reprise) from Sweeney Todd

For Now from Avenue Q

Somewhere That's Green from Little Shop of Horrors

Defying Gravity from Wicked

I have SO many more to share, but I don't want to overload it in the first post ;). So share your favs!

All I ask of You (Reprise) from Phantom I love the non-reprise, but damn this can give me chills.

A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd I've been lucky enough to work on not one but two productions of this musical - sadly not professional - and this is one of my favourites as it is delightfully macarbe.

Touch Me - Rocky Horror Picture Show I might as well just link the whole musical as I love it allll. But this is my favourite aside from the obvious of the Time Warp.

Hair - Hair Again. Love this musical. The stage version is different from the movie, but the movie can still bring me to tears all the same. Another musical I've worked on.

Cabaret - Cabaret I just love this. Just because.

Prologue of West Side Story Not a showtune in the technical sense, but its amazing and I love it. Such a brilliant piece of performance.

Ooooo GREAT choices! I LOVE Cabaret! And, of course, Rocky Horror and Phantom. Here's a few more from me:

What I Did For Love from A Chorus Line This song is so beautiful, and I love the sentiment. Plus, Idina Menzel!

Speaking of Idina Menzel: Take Me or Leave Me from Rent

Granted, it was a movie first, but too many shows are. And this song is SO EFFING WONDERFUL: Springtime for Hitler from The Producers

Oh, and speaking of Cabaret:
Mien Herr
Maybe This Time

I need to take this moment to express my adoration of Liza Minelli. I LOVE LIZA!

Great links, thanks for posting them. I love show tunes too.

Here's a couple of favorites from Into the Woods
On the Steps of the Palace , Agony and Ever After

Les Misérables has to be one of the best shows ever. Castle on a Cloud is short but lovely. And of course, I couldn't forget I Dreamed A Dream. Every time I hear that song it sends chills up my spine.

Also, a very entertaining rendition of The Cell Block Tango from Chicago
Always a Queen of Narnia

There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds. G.K. Chesterton

Favorite X-Men: :engarde :storm :colossus :nocturne :gambit :rogue :hank :psylocke

SHOWTUNES!

Thanks for those, Indigo! I'm not too familiar with Into the Woods, so I'm so happy that you shared that with me!

I did When You're Good To Mama from Chicago at karaoke last night, and it was awesome. LOVE this song. I really enjoy the "tit for tat" line.

I really enjoy Gershwin shows, and we did Crazy for You when I was in high school (oh 10+ years ago...). My FAVORITE song from that is Naughty Baby, which is hard to find on YouTube...but here's some HS version!

And talking of Cabaret, I heard this in my car last night and fell in love with it all over again: Wilkommen. I still sincerely dislike Alan Cumming, but I can't deny that his version of this song is the best I've heard.

Oh, and let's finish this with a few more Avenue Q favs (this whole soundtrack is AMAZING!):
The Internet is for Porn
Everyone's a little bit Racist
There's a fine fine line (This is one of my favorite 'belt it out in the car' songs ;))
Schadenfreude (PS, hockey fans, the first video when searching for Schadenfreude was a Philly/Bruins game. I kind of loved that.)
