My best recommendation for anyone who wants to improve their grammar, etc... is just to read. Read vast quantities of well written, professionally edited literature. Read people who use the language creatively, effectively and in complex ways. Read authors who expect their readers to be intelligent and/or well-educated and with an attention span longer than your average gerbil's. If you repeatedly see the language used well, it will (hopefully) rub off. Lord knows I'm still trying.
I recomend books like LOTR (you saw that coming, didn't you?), the Arthur triology(by Kevin Crossley-Holland), Fire Bringer and/or The Sight (both by David Clement-Davies), anything by Brian Jacques or Phillip Pullman... Umm... That's all I can think of for now... I'm practically a reading prodigy. In grade six, I had a reading-level test done... I was grade nine reading level! Meh, I'm in grade nine now, and I read so much more than I did then... Wonder what level I am now?
