Fun factlets: The blue whale, is about 30 m long (if memory serves), its tongue weighs as much as a car, some of the major arteries are so wide that you can swim down them, and the tail fin span matches that of a small aeroplane - pretty nifty eh?

Um, A. didnt say they were veg., just nice, but anyways, why not? There were stacks of Veg dinosaurs... and if you are going for body size in water or something. Plankton eating whales, so, I dont really see any logic in them not being Veg. If they were real. Though Im not a Veteranarian, or Paleontolgist, which perhaps, not knowing you, you may be.
Spoken language, from what I do understand about the Biology is partially an accident of our biology and posture creating an ideal situation for not only very mobile lips and tounges, and a laranx suited for the particular vocal cords we have. Which is why they cannot teach Chimps and Gorrilas human vocal speech.
Mythologically Chinese dragons are very differnt from european ones, and generally do things like create rivers and stuff, no munching of knighty snacks.

Hey did anyone ever go to The HOUSE ON THE ROCk in Wisconsin. They have a lifesized blue whale and giant Squid battle, though the whale isnt biologically correct. It is pretty Awsome, it is like um 3 stories high and has a gangway all around it. The eye is bigger than me. Well both sets of eyes...

actually, yeah, the eyes of both would be bigger than you. more useless trivia: the Giant Squid has the largest eyes on the entire planet.

Really! Did they find that out when they found that giant squid recently???
So cool!
I think, for eye to face ratio of domestic animals cats have the highest, they think that that is why we find them so atractive...?

they've found lots or Giant Squid, hwat made the recent discovery special was that they were alive. usually they find them all decomposing washed up on the beach...

and for domestic animals, at least mammals (fish have very large eyes).... you may be right. not really sure thouth. though i think a rat may also be up there in head-to-eye ratio... Yeah well mythologically european and chinese dragons could speak. But logically thinked thats about as realistic as dragons creating rivers. As if they would exist and so they would be animals of somekind, they wouldnt probably speak or create rivers.

Squid stuff

"he majority of squid are no more than 60 cm in length, but the giant squid is reportedly up to 20 m in length, which made it the largest invertebrate in the world, and it has the largest eyes of all. Recently, however, an even larger specimen of a poorly understood species, Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni (the Colossal Squid) has been discovered."

Hmmm well, my kitties speak to me... They wisper stories in my ears of the old times when the world was a cat world.

I dont know if dragons wisper stories in peoples ears also, but I imagine they must and that is how everyone knows thier stories....

(dont worry, I just live in the happy world where magic still exists despite all contrary evidence. Yes, if dragons exsited they were probably dinosaurs, proabably ate everything, and never whispered fairy tales or created rivers, but as G. K. Chesterson said, "The point of dragons isnt if they exist or not, but that they can be defeated." (0nly the naughty european ones, it would be foolish to defeat a helpful Asian dragon.)):D

Re: Giant Squid - mmmm... calamari :lick (actually lemon pepper squid is quite tasty)

perhaps not applicable but... Althaiophobia is the fear of marshmallows - i ask you, what is so scary about marshmallows? Bananas on the other hand...

I found a phobia list (unfortunately the marshmallow one isn't on it) but it is still interesting.

http://www.phobialist.com/

which has such beauties as -

Aphenphosmphobia- Fear of being touched.

(i dare someone to write a Rogue fic with someone accusing her of this :D)

Because psychology is a science, and some people have some phobias we would consider strange.

Did anyone ever hear about a couple who found a poodle when they went on holiday, brought it home, and it turned out to be a giant water rat? It ate their cat.
Just thought I'd say. you never know, so beware of poodles!

I think that's probably an urban legend....

*edit: yup: http://www.snopes.com/critters/lurkers/mexpet.htm

snopes.com for all your urban legend checking needs ;)

and new rule for this thread. I kinda intended for this thread to be strange, yes, but genuine science stories. try to back up your claim with a link or book/newspaper/tv reference....
