Somewhere around 17 or 18 years ago, I read a few books about dragons and a kid that worked with them. I remember loving them and reading each one several times.
So, of course, I can't remember what they were called or who they were by.
A few details that really stick in my head:
- The main character had a pouch made of dragon skin the hung around his neck, in which he kept his money.
- At one point, his dragon gets injured and he uses his mouth to heal the wound. It's mentioned that the blood is hot and burns his tongue, but human saliva helps dragons heal somehow.
Any ideas about what books these are?
Thanks!

Zack: I'm pretty sure our soul is composed of a series of toy commercials that ran from 1984-1988. When we die Hasbro does with us what they please.-

They are books by Jane Yolen.
She wrote three of them "Dragon's Blood", "Hearts Blood", and one other that I can't remember the name of.
Amazon has them all together as the Pit Dragon Chronicles in a boxed set.
The bag around the neck of the main character (Jakkin, I think. Something like Jacob) was not just like a wallet - it was his "bond money". He was an indentured servent and the money in that bag represented how close he was to buying his freedom.
I read the books when I was like 10 or 11 and loved them too.
