Smilie 3: the Resurgence

Just some works in progress.

Found the ideas on the web and I'm plagirizing and adding Kurt in.

- I left the original pics in for now, Want to change the images to be X-Men related, probaly add a phoenix effect in one, and X, and haven't thought of a third image yet.

I do mine on Paint Shop Pro 7. If thats not the same program you have, this tutorial can't help you, sorry

#1 Open a new pic. make it 30 pixels by 30 pixels (note: you'll have to make it larger then that if you want wings or something). Set the background color to "Transparent"

#2 Select the basic body color you want (if you want to make Nightcrawler smilie and your not sure how to get the colors, just copy and paste one of the Nighty smilies and use the "eye dropper" tool to get what colors you want) Select the the "paint brush" tool and set it at 13 pixels. Right in the middle of the background (you can find the middle by zooming in and finding the most middle square) paint a 13 pixel dot.

#3 "Shape of the head": to make your smilie have a less round looking head. Change the size of the PB (paint brush) to 1 pixel and paint more color under and around the chin.

#4 "Eyes": change the PB color to black (yellow if your doing Nighty of course

). Paint the base of the eyes slightly above the center of the of the face. Also make sure that there in the middle but are not touching each other. It takes 1,4, or 6 pixels in all to make each eye. Choose the color you want for the eyes (note: this is only for eyes that are 4 or 6 pixels) and color in all but the top part of the eyes. Now make that color darker and paint the middle colomum (this is only for eyes that are 6 pixels) if you want you can ad a highlight to your eyes by painting the upper right, or left, corner white.

#4 "eye brows": most smilies have no eyebrows, but if you want them just paint a black line a pixel above each of your eyes. Its okay if you have them at the edge of the head.

#5 "Hair": hair is pretty easy. choose the darkest color you want for the hair and paint above and around the face in the shape of the of the hair you want. Then make the color a few shades lighter and paint over the outer most part of the hair.

#6 "mouth": I'm new at mouths, all I know is a black line a few pixels below the the eyes, in the middle of the face, with a one or two pixels going up each corner. Thats a smiling mouth.

#7 "nose": only animal smiles have noses. Unless your making a animal smiley don't bother.

#8 "ears": like the eyebrows most smilies don't have ears. If you want pointy ears, I suggest copy and pasteing the Kurt smilie and seeing how its done there, I really don't know how to tell you in words.

#9 "outline": paint the around the chin and cheeks black.

#10 "Save" save the image as a .gif

Ooops I forgot to mention some thing.

When making a smilie on PSP you have to make it transparant by painting the backgound a different color, and then going to set Pallete transparancy.
