Good news!
From the recent Wizard World Chicago X-men panel:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/ ... i?id=11558
One fan asked about Nightcrawler, and Cebulski said the character would be back soon, and in his old, happy, swashbuckling way.
http://www.newsarama.com/Chicago_07/Mar ... panel.html
Nightcrawler was brought up next, and the creators want to bring him back into the “Swashbuckling mode” as C.B. said soon.

Yeah, I guess one quote would have been enough. Heh.
I feel very chirpy about the news. The only thing that could make me chirpier is if they announce a Wolverine/Nightcrawler porn...I mean, team-up comic.

Hey, you cynics. Though, deservedly so.
I'm with you in hoping the switch-back will somehow go smoothly... but even if it doesn't, much as I will complain about it, I think I'll sill be too darn happy to care all that much.

Have to agree there. At this point, any change is an improvement. And happy and swashbuckling? Heck yes.Originally posted by Feuerstein

I'm just having trouble seeing how they can go from moralizing douchebag to swashbuckling charmer without making it completely unbelievable. I guess when it comes down to it, I don't really care. Just do it!Originally posted by love_of_bobHave to agree there. At this point, any change is an improvement. And happy and swashbuckling? Heck yes.Originally posted by Feuerstein

To update, here's a collection of the comments I've found regarding Kurt's role in Messiah Complex. Different sites give different details:
Is Nightcrawler going to play a bigger role in the X-Men comics?
Joe Q. jokingly said, "Nah, that's it."
CB said, "NC is definitely a char we discussed, because we want to bring him back into an important part of the line."

Fan favorite character Nightcrawler was the subject of a question as one attendee asked if Kurt Wagner would have a bigger role. Cebulski noted that the character was indeed a popular topic of discussion at a recent X-Summit and that he was definitely discussed for the post-Complex world.

Q: They recently said Nighcrawler will get some more spotlight in the near future... do you have any info on this? Anything we might be excited about?
Ben Morse: 7. I don't know much more than you except that a lot of X-Men get to shine in "Messiah Complex" and Nightcrawler and the rest of the people who were on the team around the first time they met the Marauders are among those.

Also, unrelated to this, but perhaps of some interest anyway, on Mike Darey's site someone asked him regarding Kurt's thoughts during the boy's funeral during the Endangered Species one-shot:
Q: Why is Nightcrawler remembering the Erlköning during the funeral? Was there a special meaning next to the fact that in both situations a boy died?
A: I put that line from the Erl-King in there because of the paradoxical images of sheltering and deadly danger - the loving care of the father and his inability, ultimately, to save his son from his fate. It's Nightcrawler meditating on mortality in his own way. There's a pretty good parallel text translation, by the way, at http://www.wessisc.co.uk/tokipona/janeta.html, although I guess you know the original...

Doesn't sound like anything to get too excited about. (Though I'd been wondering about the Erlkoning myself, 'memba.) People are just saying he was "discussed." Doesn't mean he'll get to do anything cool. If he does, my concern is that it will be exclusively to do with the Soulsword.
Actually, I find "he was definitely discussed for the post-Complex world" to be less than promising, because if it was a definite he'd even be in the main line-up post-Complex, wouldn't they have just said so?

I don't think the main line-up post-Complex has even been revealed yet? We only know about X-Force.Originally posted by Feuerstein

I have no idea. I think he'll be included in it, probably. They wouldn't be saying he'll be more prominent if he were going to disappear. But how substantially more prominent is the issue. Maybe he'll just make more jokes.

OK, I know I shouldn't ask that. But we'll just have to wait and see.
