Whoa- the X-men are in SF now? I totally missed that transition. Why did that happen?

Xavier Institute was destroyed. Rather than rebuild, they moved to San Francisco. I believe that they were thinking that the Institute was too well known and they wanted a more incognito place to be. Or at least, that is how I understood it.

Yeah, I find all this pretty exciting. The idea was to move I guess to somewhere with a more 'open minded' approach to mutants where they'd be welcomed.
It's cool. I'm looking forward to seeing this one, but not holding my breath with excitment .

Ahh there is the girl cover. It was speculated in chat there had to be one. But the boys are fighting and the girls are...looking PRETTY?
What the heck happened to Kitty's chest? I admire the fact that she's got normal boobs but her ribcage appears to have overtaken them, and that just looks odd. I'm sure there is a model out there somewhere who posed like that, and it's valid, but oy.
Major wonderings with that prominent Jean portrait in the background too. Hmmmm.

I doubt it means anything except that she was once a prominent X-Man. Banshee is on the "Man" cover, and I'm not sure if that is supposed to be Thunderbird or Warpath.

I'm just glad they aren't around New York anymore. Seriously, with all those heroes and heroteams tripping over each other a hard and earnest working mutant can't even spoil a little bank robbery anymore.
They're fighting!

Kitty's anatomy is way off on that cover, and it's not just her boobs. Annoying...Also, no Crawlage in those previews, what's a fan girl to do?:(

Okay, isn't Kitty stuck in a ginormous bullet right now? How'd she get into Issue 500 if she's in a giant bullet?

She isn't. She's only on the cover. Jean Grey, Banshee and Thunderbird are also on the covers, and they are all dead. I think it is just meant to honor major X-Men over the years, since this is the milestone 500th issue of Uncanny.
