Uncanny Dave Cockrum Tribute

I'm totally blown away. I've only seen one or two of the pieces to be included, but Cliff Meth has told me some of the people who've contributed. Some of the top names in the business, and even contributions from Italy, Japan--

Holy sh*t!

Neal Adams, Jim Lee (apparently he drew an absolutely smashing shot of my Futurians), Mike Kaluta, Alan Davis, Barry Windsor Smith--and written tributes from Stan Lee, Neil Gaiman, Chris Claremont, and *Harlan Ellison!* and others.

I repeat: Holy sh*t!

I believe so, yes, last I heard. Cliff Meth had meant to send me copies of works going into the book, but he hasn't done so yet.

Aw, cool !!
I also hope we'll have a lot of Nightcrawler ! Every time I meet an artist I like, I can't help wondering how he/she will draw the Blue Elf !
A couple of months ago, I met Tim Sale, an artist I adore... and he didn't remember how to draw Kurt. Can you believe it ??

Please remember that the most money will go to Dave and Paty if you order it directly from Aardwolf. Lots of info is here: http://www.davecockrum.net/benefitbk.htm

Last I spoke to Cliff, everything was done except for his piece!

I already reserved my copy of this book.
I'm glad that I was able to help pitch in for Dave, and it looks like it's going to be the most incredible collaboration ever made. Too bad it couldn't be a celebration under happier terms, but actually now that Dave is out of the hospital, and made it through, I guess it is under happier terms.
Dave, I hope everything goes well from here on.
If I can just babble for a moment here, there's something I dying to get off my chest.
I offered a scan of a Wolverine commission that Dave was kind enough to do for me at a convention on the davecockrum.net site.
I actually feel terrible, if memory serves me correctly I was at a Toronto show, I was running late and about to miss my plane ride home, and Dave was so busy working on my gorgeous commission, he wasn't done.
I didn't want to seem ungrateful, or to make Dave think I was trying to hurry him in any way. Dave shipped me the piece, and apologized that I was unable to take it home with me. I actually felt bad, so Dave if you by chance remember the guy you shipped the Wolverine convention commission to, I had an ear to ear smile on my face for a month after you sent it to me, it's incredible, it's in a frame on my wall, and I apologize if I seemed ungrateful in any way.

This is great, but it would've been nice if they'd recognized your importance, sooner, Dave, but I guess better late than never. At any rate, I'm definitely getting it.

Vala: "Isn't this my room?"
Daniel: "Noooo… your room is across the hall… with the… guard in front of it."
Vala: "Ah yes, they do all rather look alike don't they? Anyhow, Since I'm here, shall we make the best of it?"
Daniel: "No, we shalln't."

Cliff tells me that ge's had to establish a cut-off point, because additional people keep finding out about the book and asking to contribute. He says the book'll never be finished if he doesn't. Last I heard, it was pretty much finished, except for Jim Lee's piece: he's doing the Futurians. ;pant

Oh, and I've been back in the hospital again for a one-day stay. They carved up both feet, and inserted a 'fistula' into my forearm, a shunt for kidney dialysis. I don't need it yet, but they tel me I will in the next six weeks to a year, and they want it to be ready. Meantime, I hurt all over and I'm popping Percocet for the pain.

Sorry to hear that Dave, but I'm glad you're out again.

That having a "fistula" installed into your forearm probably isn't as cool as it sounds, huh? I bet it doesn't even shoot lazers or have a two-way radio installed. But if it helps you, I'm all about praising the the fistula. :)

I'm really looking forward to this tribute book. It's something I had planned on buying to show support for our favorite, legendary comicbook creator. But what's awesome is that it's looking like something that will be an awesome book to own just for it's own sake. It's an incredible gathering of creative talent.

Just shows what a strong impact you've had on so many people.

Dave, so sorry about you going back into the hospital. My wife, a dislysis nurse, says not to worry about the fistula. Now that the nurses will have an easy line to use, it should make the experience of dialysis much better. She also says to be nice to the nurses - they really like the nice people :D

I won't have to start dialysis for another 6 months to a year, but they wanted the fistula in place early. That helps the vein to strengthen around it. And I'm generally friendly toward the nurses. It's the dieticians I get after with a big stick. :LOL

Have not yet recieved my copy in the mail yet. But hopefully soon. Has anyone else here gotten it in the mail?

I've seen some of the artwork online, and it looks fabulous. John Romita draws a drop-dead-gorgeous Storm.

Spoke to soon. My copy just arrived in the mail.

I've been reading through the Tribute book. There is some very nice material in here. The written tributes seem very heartfelt. I like the art a lot. Here are some of my favorites:

Storm by John Romita
Colossal Boy by Jon Bogdanove
Futurians by Jim Lee
X-Men & Legion vs The Brood by Walter Simonson
Sunswift by Frank Brunner
Nightcrawler by Todd Nauck
Shi'Ar Empire by Giorgio Comolo
Cockrum portrait by Joe Rubenstein

All in all, a really great book. I hope that it helps Dave & Paty out.
