Manifesto

Post by Ult_Sm86 »

It just snapped together. Everything.
It just... all of it.
Made perfect sense.

I can't possibly expect anyone to get what I'm talking about unless you see it so with the best of my ability I am going to describe it.

Note: There will be people who will not agree with this, see it as destructive or (hopefully) anarchy, some will even read this and say "it's viral marketing".

I don't care.
I really don't. It just... I cannot get you to understand unless you see it so I will simply show you what I saw.

---

I walk into Newbury Comics (Go Southern New England Independent Music/Comic stores!) and B-lined to the book shelf. After about a half hour of searching the racks, I had David Sedaris in one hand and "Life of Pi" in the other.

I dropped them both when I saw it.

A white book. Featureless. Just white. Some stains from being on the shelf too long. No title, no print date, no publisher, not even on the spine. I couldn't believe it. "Cool marketing technique" I told my friend (SLiM).

He agreed and i took the book into my hand and opened it.
It just starts.

No title page. Not even a price. Not a print date not a publishers note, NOTHING. Just, starts.

I flip to the end.
Last page is the last page. Nothing else is written. No inside flap no inside jacket. It's just... a book. The sticker with the price on it (placed there by clerks) says the book is called "The Manifesto". I looked this up when I got home, this is the only available title for the book being that it comes with a flyer inside that has that word printed all over it.

The flyer.
This little piece of red paper has changed my life.
Inside is all the reasons you should read the book and all the reasons you should make sure someone else does.
I'm about 20 pages in already and I had to stop to show you guys this flyer, as best as I could. If I had a scanner, I'd do that, but I don't. So, here instead, is everything it says. This flyer has completely thrown my world for a loop.

Viral marketing? Perhaps, but that book pretty much holds my manifesto in itself. I've heard of it, never seen it, always wanted to get my hands on it. It's one of those things that doesn't make sense until you stop reading the damn thing and actually get to the feeling behind the words.

It is an anarchy manifesto, and a lot of people do disagree with it. I'm kinda on the fence about it as people can read it as the sort of 'anarchy' (and I use this in the loosest term) that results in molotovs through windows, rioting etc etc. It's an image I've tried very hard to get away from - anyone who knows me in any form knows that I am a complete anarchist.

But taken in the right way - with the right mindset - not a truer word has been written. It's like any written word, though. The reader will always twist it.

I just wish the bastards would print it in England, as I've never been able to find a bloody copy.
Those who know, don't say; those who don't, say too much.

I'm sending you one immediately.

My friend SLiM (who is also student government president) and myself are ordering about 600 for the school.

I'll send you 12 or so.

I don't need anyone to tell me all of that. Putting it in a book doesn't really get it across, mind-to-mind communication would be best.

It's going under the name anarchy? Weird, since it's really the opposite. It's not the absence of anything. It's just life.
