For my fan fic X-ception I wanted some pictures. I found this pic and suped it up a lot to make it look like my main characters. Yeah it's giving away whats going to happen eventually in my story. I had fun with it. I think its actually nice in taste.WARNING NUDITY - Meghan and Kurt

Nice pic, but Nighty's got no fur, and he's close enough that you should see it some...

I have a pic that I put on some web space I'd like you to look at. It's a char in a book I'm writing and he's a furry.

I used photshop elements for this from first to last. The fur effect is done by adding noise in small grains in mono. Then you use the blur tool with an alternate brush set, one of the two natural sets, that's basically a set of speckals, so it doesn't drag everything, just some, and you keep dragging in the direction the fur would go until it's nice. For Luhk, I did it once, sharpened the results and blur dragged again over the same paths.

Okay, I don't have it done, but I did make a 4 pic series detailing exactly the technique... When I finish the pic to my satisfaction (I'm a perfectionist that way...) I'll upload it to the same directory...

The image I put in photoshop elements that came with my vaio... I have full 5.5, but not on this comp. I duped the image, made a blank background and isolated Kurt's furry parts in the top of the stack. Note I erased the hair and fingernails, too.

Now I'm adding noise to the blue... The speckals are what makes the little streaks that look like fur... on retrospect, I should have made the noise darker and shaded him some more first...

Noise

Here's the brush pallet I'm using. In elements it's "Natural Brush [1]" The one I'm showing in the picture was too big, smearing too evenly, I actually used the smallest size brush, #12.

Drag Brush

Here I'm mid way through a set of streaking the speckals. You can see how I'm trying to curve the streaks with the lay of his body. I'm not happy with how even the shading is, streakier is better, but you can see how it softens his appearance.

I don't have a finished product yet, but I'll keep working at it. I'll probably finish this set of noise, sharpen it, add some more shades and highlights to him with the burn & dodge tool, then speckal him again and do it one more time. That should do it.

Because I put furry kurt on top of the stack, if I add the middle layer the pic is just as you left it, with the addition of a fuzzy Kurt.

Hi... had some time tonight so I finished it. I smoothed the first set of noise, used dodge and burn to add more highlights and shadows and then put in another set of noise.

I smoothed that set, and this is the result.

Do a compare to yours and see the difference...

It would have worked a bit better if the black outlines were in a seperate layer so I didn't blur them so much, but I wasn't willing to go that far...

The texture of Nightcrawlers fur looks more like the picture was colored with blended pastels. If you want the furry look, maybe try drawing the original with the fur sticking out from the end of his elbow a bit and the shading and lines a bit rougher so the fur doesn't take on the defined lines of skin. Besides, if you only treated Kurt with those effects, you throw of the picture and it looks unbalanced. One person has the clear and defined look of the computer but the other appears to have been drawn by hand.

Ah, but the point was to teach my friend to use the technique himself. It's something I learned from a furry fan page.

And his fur doesn't extend out past his elbows and stuff, the creators on the Cockrum forum state that it's like velvet, a really short plush.

Ooooh. Very cool fuzzy Kurt. It was pretty before, now it's pretty and soft and furry looking. I'm as bad w/soft and fuzzy as with bright, shiny objects.
