Did you know that if all Chinese, Swedish and Norwegian people held hands in a circle around the Earth, most of them would drown?

It's physically impossible for you to lick your elbow.

The lighter was invented before the match.

A duck's quack doesn't echo.

On average, 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens each year.

In 10 minutes, a hurricane releases more energy than all of the world's nuclear weapons combined.

On average people fear spiders more than they do death.

Only one person in two billion will live to be 116 or older.

Women blink nearly twice as much as men.

No word in the English language rhymes with "MONTH."

TYPEWRITER is the longest word that can be made using the letters only on one row of the keyboard.

Almost everyone who reads this will try to lick their elbow.
Holy crap, it's been awhile!

Most people fear public speaking more than death. According to that theory, if you're at a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the ulegy(sp????)!

A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes. (I wanna come back as a pig when I get re-encarnated... :D)

Uhhhh.... I'll have more later.

This just *begs* to be asked... Though I have also heard about the pig's half-hour orgasm... exactly how can someone objectivly quantify this? :naughty :sausage

Tidbits I'm aware of:

Honey has successfully been used as a topical antibiotic and medicine since the earliest Egyptian dynasty.

Uncooked potato skins are incredibly effective in treating burns. They're doing clinical work on this in India right now, where medicine has to be cheap so the poorest people can afford it, and nasty cooking burns are a fact of life.

No one is allergic to animal fur: rather, they're allergic to the animal's saliva, which gets all over their fur from constant grooming....

For bee and wasp stings, an effective treatement is fresh papaya rubbed over the wound, or even meat tenderizer. Something about the enzymes counteracts the venom. (Um... don't bother with this if you're allergic to the sting, or papaya....)

There's roughly a six minute window between "clinical death" (loss of heartbeat, respiration, etc) and "true death" (root through the pockets and search for loose change). Under normal circumstances, that's how long it takes for your brain to asphyxiate. All bets are off when it comes to hypothermia, however. People have "come back to life" after being at the bottom of a freezing lake for fifteen minutes, albeit with some brain damage.

Ya know, Kurt would make an awesome "Dread Pirate Roberts"!

Sorry, couldn't help it - one of my fav movies :D

And yes, the ducks quack does echo - according to the Mythbusters.

No comment on the pig thing :P

But to add my unusual fact to the thread (a bit nerdy but)....

In 1990 a 1 gigabyte hard drive cost around $1500(US).
Also in 1990, the sale of CD's for music exceeded 1 billion prints.
More to follow....

:D :D I knew someone would pick up on the subreference. But, alas, poor Kurt is way too small for a "Dwead Piwate Wobbahts" (to imitate Andre's lisp). Even with the albino's wheelbarrow and Miracle Max's apocalypse cloak.... :scratch

Oh, wait: you meant the REAL one, don't you? The blonde guy with the iocane powder? Well, in that case, sure.

And for true computer history, does anyone here remember ENIAC? The first truly modern computer, using vacuum tubes? That poor thing could only run for five minutes at a time, because it got too hot with all those incandescent tubes! :D But even with only a few minutes of calculating time at a shot, it was 1440 times faster than a guy with a slide rule. for more info, here's the website:

Well, I dont Know, Kurtty could do every move Westley did in the sword dual with Inigo - and much more (probably better!).

Did you know that butterflies smell with their feet??

Did you know that after Creed broke up, Scott Stapp did a recording session with The Tea Party, my most favourite band ever??

And people are actually allergic to the dander (dead skin cells) in an animal's fur. And the spit too, but it's not JUST the spit.

"In 1897 Thaddeus Cahill patented (pat no 580,035) what was to become the "Telharmonium" or "Dynamophone" which can be considered the first significant electronic musical instrument" It weighed 200 tons!

I was just introduced to this article by a friend. Sad though, no recordings of this device are known to exist :cry. Go throw "telharmonium" into your favorite search engine and read what comes back. My favorite site for this piece of history is at :

ok. ii just found one that i found to be incredibly bizarre...

JEREMY BENTHAN, founder of modern utilitarianism, who died in 1832, still attends meetings at the University College London. Bentham decreed that his remains should participate in philosophy department meetings, and his request has been honored--or so the story goes.

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/ ... 35403/pg_2 (some other interesting mummy stuff there too) that's where i first foud it and i just had to verify if it was true or not...

Image

The exposed head at the moment is of wax. The real one was robbed in diverse occasions as a traditional joke of the students reason why now is conserved in a strong box of the UCL. The body, nevertheless, is transferred every year to preside over some meetings in which it remembers to him with the phrase "Jeremy Bentham, present but without right to vote" .
Page translated via Google...

"Thank you for highlighting Jeremy Bentham, the founder of UCL, my alma mater (LLM, 1989). Just a bit of confusion here though. Mr Bentham is not "in" his Auto-Icon, he IS the Auto-Icon. At death, following his wishes, his body was donated to the UCL Med School but the skelton was re-covered with his skin and mounted as you see in the gif. [However], the head in the gif and on display is a wax dummy. His actual head was mummified and stood on the Auto-Icon until [1989-90, when]...hooligan students from UCL's historical cross-London rival, King College (the Strand), now KCL, stole the head and played football with it! The head is now safe in a vault.
"I've been to dinner with the Auto-Icon. He attends the annual dinner of the Law Society at UCL..."

Did you know:

From smelling your hand, a dog can tell your age, gender, and the age and gender of any dogs you might have at home.

Shakespere only left one thing for his wife in his will: his four poster bed.

Two Nabraska men were arrested for public indecency after walking around a Walmart wearing only t-shirts and ladies thong underwear. The charges were dropped because they said they were responding to a 'triple dog dare'. :LOL

In an Amphitheater in Medford, sprinklers went off during a showing of the movie 'Singing in the Rain'.

In Boston, a 21 year old man emerged from a 5 month coma when his father promised to buy him a Corvette if he woke up.

And last but not least: Researchers at the U. of Utah have discovered that having a pessimistic outlook can have beneficial health aspects. But they're probably wrong :P
