Original Artwork Question...

Post by cinlach »

Hi Mr. Cockrum!

New member here with a question about a piece of your original artwork I'm lucky enough to own.

I've got a splash page from the Starjammers mini you did a while back and the lettering "BOARDING PARTY" has fallen off. It looks like it was done on a very thin vellum paper and was stuck to the art board somehow.

Image

Whatever was holding it on has decided that enough's enough and has given up on keeping that piece attached to the page.

Can you offer any advice as to how I might be able to reattach it?

It almost looks like white-out was what was holding it on...like the original caption wasn't "BOARDING PARTY" but was covered up with white out and then that was tacked on top of it in the exact same spot.

Can anyone offer any solutions?

Well, I'll tell you how I attach copy: I use Scotch double-sided tape. This guarantees no yellowing.

I would recommened using rubber cement to remount the letter balloons. Many letters have used that. Go to your local art supply store, they have non-acidic rubber cement.

Be seeing you,

Cool page. Do you own any other Cockrum artwork?

Rubber cement yellows over time and will not only stain the paper, but will seep through the pasted-up caption as well. I've seen some of the most beautiful pages ruined by hideous yellow rubber cement stains. That's why I use double-sided tape.
