12/30 issue: All the Hells

Post by Slarti »

After Suicide Plans for Immortals.

Paige: Paige's day had begun at 2 a.m. with an emergency call. She had left Bobby and rushed to the hospital, desperately trying not to shake. This was one of those calls that she dreaded. One that she hated. 16 hours later... there was nothing to show for it. The family was notified. All she wanted now was to hold her own sweet babies and forget the last day had even happened.

Paige: She leaned against the wall of the attendings lounge and slowly slid her wedding band back on, trying to muster the emotional strength to go back home after being called out in the middle of the night. She was sure it would be a fight. It seemed to happen that way.

Bobby: Despite his assurances to Carol, Bobby really really didn't want to do this. He didn't want to talk to Tony and although he knew he had to tell Paige what had happened he didn't want to do that either.

Bobby: But now, Bobby had cornered himself and Rogue was forcing his hand. It was time to bite the bullet and be a man. He really sucked at that.

Paige: Taking a deep breath, Paige pulled her scrub cap off, running her fingers over her blonde hair. She pushed off from the wall and moved to her cubby to try and get her things together.

Bobby: Bobby was outside the hospital in his truck, taking Carol up on her offer of watching the kids. This entire situation was half his fault and he had to fix it. Or at least limit the damages.

Paige: After a hot shower, there was nothing left to do except go home. Sighing, Paige gathered her purse and walked slowly out to the parking lot, running her fingers through her freshly washed and dried hair.

Bobby: He stared at his wife for a good ten seconds until he realized he'd spent too long in the parking lot psyching himself up. Fuck. She looked stressed too. Fucking fuck. He took a deep breath and jumped out of the truck to catch her.

Paige: Shaking hands meant Paige fumbled with her keys, dropping them to the ground. Sighing, she bent down to pick them up.

Bobby: Bobby came to a screeching halt behind her when she bent over, barely stifling a curse.

Paige: The movement caught her attention, and she grabbed her pepper spray, thumb on the button on a reflex, as she moved to turn around and yell at whoever was approaching her... realizing it was Bobby just in time. "Bobby?" She asked, confused, as she stood back up.

Bobby: He stifled his reflex to ice up more quickly than his "oshit!" She was fast, and she had pepper spray. "Babe! Sorry! Shit!"

Paige: She lowered the pepper spray, laughing a little. "What are you doing here?"

Bobby: He eyeballed the pepper spray and laughed, although his came out high and a little hysterical. "Heeeey..." Why was he here indeed? Work, brain, work! "Um..."

Paige: Weird... he was being weird, right? "Everything okay, Bobberz?" she asked a bit uneasily, reaching out for his hand.

Bobby: "Um..." Speak! "Y-yeah." Nope, not at all. Bobby took her hand anyway and finally looked at her. She looked tired, and stressed, and he was a terrible person. "Are you okay?"

Paige: "I'm fine," she lied, pulling him into a hug. "How are you?"

Bobby: He was pretty sure she was lying, but he returned the hug. "Okay." Bobby closed his eyes and just held her, trying to savor the moment.

Paige: She visibly relaxed in his hold, feeling some of the stress melt away. "I'm glad you came... how did you know I was done?"

Bobby: "Lucky guess?" He winced at himself. If hell existed, he was going to it. He was going to all of them. The Catholic one, the Jewish one... ones he didn't know about...

Paige: "Oh..." she gave him a bit of an odd look, looking up at him. "Are... you okay?"

Bobby: The jig was up. He gave her a slight smile, pulling back a little. "Yeah... I know this is terrible timing, but, um... w-we need to talk..."

Paige: "Okay... " Paige pulled back a little further, studying him more closely. "What's wrong? Where are the kids?"

Bobby: "Carol is watching them, they're fine," he said quickly. "It's just... a long story." Bobby licked his lips nervously and looked around. "This is a terrible place for a long story."

Paige: "There's a bar across the street. Let's get a drink?" She suggested.

Bobby: Oh good, that's how this all started. He nodded anyway. "Yeah, sounds good."

Paige: Paige checked to be sure her car was locked before heading toward the bar. A million questions should have been on her mind, but instead she just felt... numb. What was going on? Was he being like... deployed? Could she handle that?

Bobby: Bobby escorted her across the street, taking her hand out of habit, then swallowing hard when he realized what he'd done. He held the door for her as they went inside.

Paige: She flashed him a smile and led him to her favorite table in a corner, sliding into the booth easily.

Bobby: Bobby sat, but it was more awkwardly. His leg started to bounce.

Paige: "So...." she started, glancing over at him.

Bobby: "So." He blew out a long breath. "Um... first of all, I need to tell you I'm really sorry, for everything, and for my timing today," his voice shook a little and he took another breath. "And, I love you."

Paige: "I love you too..." she replied hesitantly. "And what do you mean? Sorry for everything?" Her eyes watched him, taking in the nervous energy.

Bobby: "Y-you know about Rogue and Tony Stark, yeah? A-and he bought her a house and everything. I think... she panicked, or something, because Tony is... serious."

Paige: "She panicked because Tony loves her and is committing to her?" Paige asked, visibly confused.

Bobby: "Yes?" He realized it'd come out like a question and he winced. "Yeah... Okay. Um... Carol and Rogue got drunk and sent text messages and one of them was to me," he had to pause that rapid fire word barfing to breathe.

Bobby: After a moment, he tried again. "ShesaidshelovedmeandwekissedandnowshefeelsguiltyandthreatenedtokillCarol."

Paige: Paige tilted her head to the side, confused. "What now?"

Bobby: Fucking hell. He closed his eyes. "I meant to tell you this at a... I don't know, better time, but there isn't such a thing and now I have to do it now because Rogue threatened to kill Carol." It was still fast, but at least understandable.

Paige: "What?!" Paige sat up straight, eyes wide. "Why would she threaten to kill Carol?" Could she even kill Carol? There was some food for thought. Wait... what did this have to do with her and Bobby?

Bobby: He sighed. "Babe... I, um, I k-kissed Rogue. We were drunk, and I'm a terrible person, I know." Bobby looked down at the table. "I'm sorry. Carol knew and threatened to tell Tony... so Rogue threatened to kill her... and I can't let that happen."

Paige: Stunned. Paige was absolutely stunned. She sat there as her entire world came crumbling down. Why was it so hard to breathe in here? She just stared at her husband. Her husband who had kissed another woman... while he was drunk.

Bobby: There was dead silence and he risked a look up. "I'm so sorry, Paige. It was a mistake, and I admit that, but... I don't know what Rogue is thinking to threaten Carol. I told her I'd own up to it and tell Tony myself. Rogue can't kill me."

Paige: Air. Where was the air? "Are... are you... two?" How could she even get the words out? "Are you in love with her?" she blurted out finally.

Bobby: Bobby winced. "We're not-" Oh... there was the question he'd been dreading. "S-she texted me when she was drunk," he said, deciding to skip over her and Carol's stupid double dog dare. "I went to ask her what the fu- what she meant a-and she told me she loved me..."

Paige: "Robert. Are you in love with her?!" Paige asked more forcefully.

Bobby: Bobby jumped and met her eyes, then looked away. "...yeah, but... it's nothing new." He swallowed. "I've loved her for years, but we never... did anything. N-never... talked about it..."

Paige: Ouch. What little air there had been in the room dissipated. She took deep breaths, trying to get any oxygen to her spinning head. "I see...." Air. Breathe. Air.

Bobby: "I love you, I never lied about that." He winced at her expression. "I love you, and our family, and... I'm so sorry."

Paige: "So what now, Bobby?" Paige asked softly. "What now?"

Bobby: He rubbed both hands over his face, pressing the heels of his hands into his eye sockets. His eyes were burning and fucking hell this was... beyond awful. "I don't know." He swallowed and let his hands drop. "I just... I-I can't say sorry enough, and I couldn't let Carol get hurt because me and Rogue made a stupid fucking mistake."

Paige: "What exactly is the mistake though, Bobby? Doing it... or getting caught?" she asked him coldly. "This homewrecker you are so in love with is threatening to kill your friend to protect this secret. And she's also in a relationship, might I add."

Bobby: "Doing it, of course! I fucking hate that I did it!" A part of him didn't, but it was quickly overshadowed. "And yeah, I don't know what she's thinking - or if she is at all. It's crazy!"

Paige: "What's crazy is spending your entire life trying to save the lives of tiny tiny humans. Tiny tiny humans who haven't even had a chance to live yet. And your husband is going behind your back with his best friend."

Bobby: Bobby hadn't heard that tone from Paige very often, but now it made him frown. "We also have tiny tiny humans at home who barely see you," he snapped.

Paige: "You know, Bobby. I got a call 2 a.m. this morning because my patient and her twins were in distress. I spent the last 16 hours fighting desperately to save their lives, Bobby. Their damn lives. And you know what happened? They died. They died on my fucking table today, Bobby. I had to go tell her husband that his wife and both of his children are now dead. And you want me to feel guilty that my own kids don't get to see me as often?"

Bobby: Bobby shut his mouth, looking down at the table. Terrible person confirmed.

Paige: "Don't come home tonight, Bobby," she said softly to him. "I don't care where you go... just don't come home."

Bobby: He swallowed and just nodded his head.

Paige: Paige pushed off the table, getting up and grabbing her purse.

Bobby: Bobby sat, knowing he should say something, but the knot in his throat wouldn't let him. "I'm sorry," he finally managed.

I guess it would be awkward if Rogue said he could crash in one of their guest rooms :shifty
