Timeline: A day or two after Tattle Tale

Rogue: Rogue braced on the door frame the second it opened with one hand, pulling off her shoes with the other, and letting out a pained groan. "Remind me never t' wear those shoes with mah bracelet on ever again." She wiggled her bare toes and stepped onto the cool tile, just standing there with her eyes closed for a moment, enjoying the feel of the slick stone under her sore and blistered feet.

Tony: Tony followed her inside. His bow tie was already dangling from his collar and the second Plato closed the door on the outside world and the Secret Service for the night he unbuttoned his collar. "Do you need a foot massage? Or a hot bath? Either sounds good to me." He laughed. "Or a scotch. All of the above?"

Rogue: Her head lolled back over her shoulder to look at him with a sleepy grin. "Ah could do with a nightcap an' then maybe twenty hours o' sleep." She hooked the stilettos over her forearm and reached up to take off her Virginia Hill earrings as she started walking down the hall. "Which scotch stash do we wanna raid t'night?"

Tony: Head tipping sideways to watch her sway down the hall, Tony grinned. "Only twenty?" She was getting away from him so he trotted down the hall to catch up, stopping her with his hands on her hips as he rested his chin on her shoulder to nuzzle her ear. "What the hell, why not get out the Glenrothes. It's a special night."

Rogue: "Mmm. Is it?" She turned her head just enough to almost catch his cheek with hers. Rogue wrapped the earring hand behind his neck and hummed in pleasure. They were home and could relax and he was touching her. All good things in her book. "What makes t'night so special, sugah?"

Tony: "I think Rhodey did well tonight. Granted, it's a friendly crowd, but I feel like he really nailed his speech. I'm happy for him." He shifted just enough to brush the corner of her mouth with his goatee. "I'm even happier we're home."

Rogue: "He did do really well, didn't he?" She wrinkled her nose and laughed at the tickle of his goatee. "Me too. Ah could probably fall int' bed just like this an' sleep like a baby." Rogue kissed at what she could reach, which was just a few whiskers, but she didn't care. "Den, study, bedroom, library, or workshop? Or, a novel thought, th' kitchen?"

Tony: "You wouldn't. You'd wrinkle that dress and then complain about it tomorrow." He ran his hands over the silky fabric, enjoying Anna Marie's curves and stepped around her to catch her mouth for a teasing kiss. "If you want to sleep, the bedroom is where it's traditionally done..."

Rogue: "An' then y'd just build a robot t' steam th' wrinkles out," she teased, putting her mostly empty hand on his lapel. "Mmhmm. But we're gonna have a drink first, right? That's done in nearly any room o' this house where y' c'n traditionally, or creatively, store y' liquor."

Tony: "I could get Dum-E to do it..." He brushed their noses together, taking her hand and holding it against his chest. "Well, the Glenrothes is in the study, so I guess our decision is made."

Rogue: "He would do anythin' f'r his mama, that's true." Rogue brushed their lips together after his nose passed hers. "Lead th' way, Mr. President. Ah'll happily follow y' anywhere."

Tony: "Oh, so we're being formal?" He cleared his throat and straightened, offering her his arm in escort. "I would have you by my side, not before you, Miss Battle."

Rogue: Rogue shifted her shoes so that they were on the arm with the earrings and she took his arm. "Well, Mr. Stark. Ah do believe that may be one o' th' kindest things a man has ever said in mah presence."

Tony: He held it together all the way to the study, which took effort, but when he got her to the door he couldn't resist. "I'm sorry, but when you do that it's just devastatingly sexy. It makes me wanna do things to you."

Rogue: "When Ah do ...what?" She was genuinely confused and looked herself over, from the shoes barely hanging onto her forearm by the heel, the bare and blistered feet, and the almost wrinkled dress. "Ah mean, don't let me stop y'. Do all th' things y' want to me. But Ah genuinely have no idea what y' mean, Tony."

Tony: "You got all southern belle," he said with a chuckle, bemused by her lost expression. "All kinds of things, but starting with this." Tony scooped her up in his arms and carried her into the study.

Rogue: Rogue laughed in surprise, then hummed in contentment, taking the opportunity to pepper soft kisses on his neck. "Ah was just bein' me, sugah. Glad t' know that's 'devastatingly sexy' t' you."

Tony: "Always," he said, grinning at the kisses as he carried her to his desk, kicking the chair aside and setting her down carefully. Once she was settled, Tony nudged himself between her knees, hands sliding up the smooth skin to ruck up her dress. He gave her a wicked grin and then went in for a kiss.

Rogue: "This ain't a nightcap," she managed to murmur before their lips met. Rogue shook her arm until the heels clattered to the floor, then set the earrings beside her so she could bring her hands up to hold his face. He seemed to want a different type of touch than she did right now and she aimed to change that. She was too tired for wicked. Slow and sensual was all she could muster tonight.

Tony: Tony easily took the bait, since any kiss with her worked wonders for him. His hands moved from her legs to her hips, then higher to cross behind her and pull them close. "Oh, it's a nightcap, just of a different kind," he chuckled when they broke apart.

Rogue: "If we ain't gonna break out th' Glenrothes, maybe we should find somewhere softer?" Her thumbs brushed his cheekbones and she kissed him again, slower this time. "Or were we still needin' t' christen th' desk?"

Tony: "I never said we weren't going to drink too." He enjoyed the slow, almost lazy kiss, growling a little at the idea of christening the desk. "That we do..." But she said she was tired, so he forced himself to break the kiss. "But, it can wait."

Rogue: "Drinkin' each other in is different than drinkin' scotch," she smirked. Rogue's hands slid down his neck and pulled the bow tie from its perch, laying it down beside her.

Tony: "Astute observation, Miss Battle." He smiled at her fussing. "Maybe we should do both at once." Tony gave her a soft kiss, then stepped back to go to the bar, rummaging for the bottle and two glasses.

Rogue: Rogue made a noise of discontent when she was left without a warm Tony between her legs, but took the time to pick the tie back up, running the soft silk through her fingers before folding it neatly, and stacking it under her earrings. She smiled at the sight of the light catching the glint of the emeralds and the sheen of his tie. They looked good together.

Tony: Tony returned with the bottle and the glasses, setting them up on his desk and pouring a measure into each glass before handing one to Anna Marie. He inhaled the rich scent of the single malt, but his eyes were on hers.

Rogue: Rogue watched him with a sleepy smile on her face, swirling the glass lazily as she kept her eyes locked on his rich brown ones. She took a slow sip from her scotch, letting the flavors play over her tongue and warm her all the way down her throat. He was one of her two favorite people and she could bask in his gaze for as long as he'd let her.

Tony: For Tony, he felt like he was drowning in those gorgeous emerald green eyes. They matched the earrings she'd been wearing tonight, but imperfectly. The emeralds lacked the depth of her beauty. He took a long pull from the glass and savored the burn.

Rogue: There was something about this silence that made her feel safe. It was almost always this way with them. Even with as much as he loved to talk, sometimes, there would be silences like this one and they would say so much without uttering a single sound. She set her glass down and picked up the bottle, reaching out to pour another handle for him before topping herself off and picking her tumbler up again.

Tony: The soft sound of the scotch pouring into their glasses broke the silence and made him smile at her, feeling warm from not just the liquor. Tony took another drink and closed the distance between them again, reaching for her free hand with his own. "Maybe, we should take this somewhere more comfortable. I know you've had a long day of political pageantry."

Rogue: Rogue gladly took his hand and slid off of the desk after another taste of the Glenrothes. "Politics is exhaustin'. Ah don't know how y've managed t' stay sane f'r nearly eight years. Poor Rhodey might break b'fore he gets t' his second term."

Tony: "It can be, if you're not used to it." He started toward the bedroom, taking a drink on the way. "A lot of people would say I didn't start the presidency sane," he laughed. "But I had good people, and then I had you."

Rogue: A blush rose on her cheeks and she looked down into her glass as she smiled. "Y' had me b'fore y' knew y' did. Ah absolutely voted f'r y'. Who wouldn't want a sexy president who's smarter'n Einstein?"

Tony: "And who supports mutant rights?" He gave her a grin, charmed by her blush. "Well, I hope I'm doing as well as you'd hoped in serving you, as a constituent, of course."

Rogue: "Of course," she echoed. "Just as a constituent." Rogue took a longer pull from her glass since they were close to their room. "This mutant constituent is very pleased with how well y've been handlin' th' ever stressful job an' office, Mr. Stark. An', Ah must say, Ah'm also quite pleased with th' other ways y' serve this particular mutant constituent all by her lonesome."

Tony: "If you're happy with my performance, then so am I. Where would you put my approval ratings? Low nineties?" He watched her from the side of his eye as they went into the bedroom, allowing her to be first in the door. The lights brightened on unspoken command and Tony set down his drink to strip off his tuxedo jacket.

Rogue: "As far as Ah'm concerned? Hmm." Rogue moved to her nightstand and set her own glass down after another sip, then walked over to him to take his jacket, turning her back to him in unspoken question as she swept her hair over her shoulder. "Ah'd have t' say low nineties is a good estimate. F'r a bad day, any road."

Tony: "Well," he started, dragging the word out. Tony reached for the zipper at the back of her dress, sliding it down slowly since every inch revealed more of her lovely creamy skin to him. He sucked in a breath through his nose to calm himself. "We'll just have to work on getting those numbers up, won't we?"

Rogue: She smiled at him over her shoulder then turned to give him a soft kiss in thanks for the help before moving to his closet to hang up his jacket. "So, y' want t' be mah yes man? That's th' only way t' get those numbers up. An' darlin', Ah ain't so sure Ah always want y' tellin' me yes."

Tony: "Mmm. You have a point, and apparently I lose a point when I disagree with you. Noted." His tone was light and he unbuttoned his shirt, starting for the bathroom.

Rogue: That made her laugh as she left his closet to move over to hers to hang up her dress. She stepped out in time to catch some of his naked chest. "Mmm. Not always." Rogue let her dress cascade to the floor before she stepped out of the pool of fabric and bent down to pick it up. "Ah like a li'l bit o' fight in mah President."

Tony: "Well, that's totally understandable, too. You'd hate for your president to go soft at unpredictable times." Tony was down to his undershirt and looking for his deodorant. It never hurt to do a little sniff test before crawling in bed with a gorgeous woman. After checking the cabinet he thought it was in he frowned and opened another.

Tony: His eyes fell on a box, pushed near the back of the cabinet. He felt his heart plummet to the pit of his stomach to roll around in his scotch. "Honey..."

Rogue: "Hmm?" She put the hanger back on the rack after making sure her dress was secure and stepped back into the room. "What's wrong?" He sounded sick. "Y're not gonna throw up th' most expensive scotch we own are y'?"

Tony: Numbly, he reached into the cabinet and pulled out the box of pregnancy tests, turning to look at her. Tony held up the box in question and cleared his throat from the lump forming there. "Anna Marie? Is there something you need to tell me?"

Rogue: The smile fell from her face and it was her who felt like she was going to be sick. "No," she whispered, voice suddenly gone. And his reaction to finding the box wasn't helping how she felt. "Ah just... No," she repeated, at a loss for words.

Tony: "You just know?" Tony closed his eyes for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "You just know what? That you are or aren't pregnant?"

Rogue: "No, not Ah know. Just... No." Rogue licked her lips and forced herself to move forward, reaching to take the box from him. "Ah'm late an' with all th' talk 'bout me overreactin' 'bout Carol, Ah thought maybe... It ain't possible, so Ah didn't take one."

Tony: He let her take the box. It hadn't been opened, so she hadn't taken one. It was still an odd thing to find, considering. "So you're not pregnant, but you're late. Late enough to make you get a test?"

Rogue: "No, Ah'm not." She made a face. "Ah don't think." Her heart was in her throat and she moved to the trashcan, tossing the box inside. "Y' weren't supposed t' find it. Ah didn't mean t' scare y'."

Tony: "Well if you don't know don't you think you'd better take the test? You didn't scare me - I'm just... surprised, and, uh, confused... you told me that just because your parts worked didn't mean you could get pregnant."

Rogue: "Ah was surprised, too. An' confused." Rogue took a breath, "An' scared." She turned to look at him, "Mah powers ain't exactly th' most conducive environment t' grow somethin' with skin."

Tony: "Don't be scared, sweetheart." He closed the short distance and wrapped her in his arms. "We'll figure it out. If you think you should take a test, then you should probably do it."

Rogue: Rogue looked up into his eyes, searching them, but she wasn't sure for what. "An' if Ah am? Then what? We just wait 'til our baby dies?"

Tony: "So you're saying, you could get pregnant, but your powers will... absorb the fetus?" Tony knew there was a lot he didn't know about her powers, despite reading the files and experiencing them first hand.

Rogue: Well that sounded horrific and didn't help her desire to want to shrink into nothing at all. "Ah don't think it'd get all th' way t' 'fetus'. It'd likely try t' implant an' die b'fore it's even an embryo. If mah eggs c'n even be fertilized."

Tony: "You told me you didn't even think you could get pregnant. That's was why we stopped using protection, when it was just me and you." Of course now she knew he'd been a one woman man for a good year longer than she'd known. "What's going on that made you think that'd changed?"

Rogue: Rogue threw her hands up in the air, at a loss, letting out a short, sad chuckle. She was proud that it didn't turn into a sob. "Ah don't know. Ah just feel weird right now, so Ah bought th' tests 'cause Ah was scared."

Tony: "Okay," he started, catching her hands. "Okay, okay. I'm not trying to upset you sweetheart, but if you think you should take the test, then maybe you should." He frowned in thought. "You have been tired lately." And emotional, but he wasn't going to tell an emotional woman she was being emotional.

Rogue: Him catching her hands let the sob escape, and she took a shaky breath. "Ah'm sorry." Rogue didn't know what else to say. If she had thought this was a possibility, she would've done so many things differently.

Tony: She felt weird. That covered a lot, but now she was crying and Tony felt himself panic a little. "Shhh, Anna Marie, there's nothing to be sorry for," he said wrapping her up in his arms. "Nothing is your fault here."

Rogue: Rogue closed her eyes and let him hold her, trying to calm herself down a little so she could think straight. "Except we shoulda been doin' somethin' f'r protection apparently. An' that's mah fault."

Tony: Tony rubbed her back, setting his chin on top of her head to hold her close. "But you don't know that for sure either. We can talk about protection again, later, but for now, what do you want to do?"

Rogue: "Continue t' live in denial," she muttered, then sniffed, calming some within his arms. "What do you want me t' do?"

Tony: "Don't you think, maybe, you should take the test? Could be you're worrying for nothing." He kissed her forehead, nuzzling her hairline. His own heart was racing from the uncertainty of it all.

Rogue: And Rogue could feel it beating nearly in time with hers. "What if it's positive? Do y' want me t' figure out... T' have Hank..." She couldn't bring herself to say it, but in all honesty, it might be the better of all of their options.

Tony: "No. Why? Do you?" He didn't even stop to consider it, which surprised him more than a little.

Rogue: "No," she shook her head as much as she could without leaving the comforting presence of his embrace. Rogue cleared her throat and tried to steady her breathing. "But, Ah thought... B'cause o'... Everythin'... That y' wouldn't wanna keep it or if it'd even be possible."

Tony: "If it's possible, of course I'd want to keep our child." Hope would have opinions, but she'd get used to the idea of having a baby brother or sister. "Because of everything? We're talking about getting married, and adopting. This is just... unexpected. Moves up the time table."

Rogue: That finally got her to lift her head and look at him. "Ah don't want y' t' do anythin' y' don't wanna do, Tony. Ah need y' t' understand that first an' foremost."

Tony: Tony moved back enough to be able to see her. "When do I do things I don't want to do?" He gave her a crooked grin. "C'mon."

Rogue: His grin lifted her spirits a little, but she could still feel his heart thundering. "Sugah, y' heart's goin' ninety t' nothin'..."

Tony: "Well yeah, I wasn't exactly planning for a possibly life-altering situation tonight, unless you count the sex." He threw in a wink with the grin, since she seemed to be calmer now.

Rogue: "Tony..." Rogue took a steadying breath and lifted on her toes to press a soft kiss to his cheek. She was still terrified, but she knew he needed to know, and she needed to stop living in denial. "Okay. Ah'll take th' test if y' want me to."

Tony: "Anna," he started, then paused at the kiss. He raised a hand to turn her face toward his and gave her a gentle kiss. "Thank you."

Rogue: She kissed him again and gave him a slight smile. "Y're welcome. Ah want y' happy." Rogue glanced at the trash can, then back at Tony. "Ah'll just be a minute. Unless y' wanna be in here when Ah do it?"

Tony: "I am happy." Nervous? Yes, but happiness was also in the spin cycle of emotion in his head. "Uh, do you want me in here with you?"

Rogue: "Good." She gave him another ghost of a smile. "Ah... Ah don't know? Ah mean, it ain't like y've not seen me pee b'fore. Just happens this one's a li'l more emotionally charged an' it involves a stick."

Tony: Tony laughed and let her go so she could get the tests. "If you want me here, I'm here. If you want some privacy, I'll go... get a drink."

Rogue: Why was this decision harder than it should be? Rogue pulled the box from the trash and turned back to look at him. "Y' might as well go finish mah drink since Ah might not be able t' finish it anyway."

Tony: Right. She'd been drinking, when she thought she might be pregnant. But, she was in denial. Women were complex creatures. "I'll do that then," he said with a nod, turning for the door. "If you need me, I'll be right, uh, here. Obviously."

Rogue: Rogue nodded and watched him leave while she clutched the box so tight, the edges crumpled a bit. "An' if y' need me, Ah'll be... in here." She took a deep breath and turned to look in the mirror. Lingerie, running mascara, and a pregnancy test. The perfect image of a possible mother-to-be.

Tony: He decided to leave the door ajar, just in case she needed him, and went back to the bedroom, running both hands through his hair. This was not how the evening was supposed to end.

Rogue: After staring at her reflection for about a minute, she looked down at the small, pink box. Rogue had never had cause to take one of these before, so she had no idea what to do other than pee on one end. She opened the box, pulled out the test and the instructions, and went to the toilet to figure it out. Her stomach was in complete upheaval and she thought about tossing it in the trash again.

Tony: Tony knocked back the remainder of the scotch in both of their glasses and decided to change clothes, stripping off the rest of his tux and kicking his shiny shoes into the closet. He tried to stay calm while he found the pants he normally slept in - when he bothered with clothes at all - and put them on. Then, with nothing else to do, he started to pace the room.

Rogue: This was not the kind of silence she liked. This silence was full of anxiety and charged nerves. Rogue finished, flushed, and walked to the sink to put the stick down and wash her hands. "Plato, set a timer f'r two minutes. Tony?" She watched the stick fir a moment then decided she couldn't and turned her back to it.

Tony: He flinched a little at the flush and paused, then turned in his route. He debated finding something to occupy himself and looked toward his repulsors on the dresser, then shook himself. Pregnancy tests didn't take that long, did they? "Yes! Yes?" He was relieved for the distraction and went to the bathroom door, pushing it open.

Rogue: The second he appeared, she gave a tiny wave from where she stood, not wanting to move from her post in front of the test. "What're y' hopin' it'll say?"

Tony: Tony went back to her and held out his arms in invitation. "Depends. If there's a chance you can carry our baby to term, and if you want to do that, plus all the raising that comes after, then of course I'd love to have a family with you."

Rogue: She stepped into his open arms and looked up at him. "Ah've always wanted t' do that... Ah just never thought it could be possible." Rogue wanted to glance at the test over her shoulder, but refused, keeping her eyes set on Tony's. "It wouldn't ruin y' image t' have a baby? Especially outta wedlock?"

Tony: "Well, we could always get married." He shrugged, arms around her. "Problem solved. But another child out of wedlock seems on brand for me. Doesn't bother me."

Rogue: "A shotgun weddin'?" That made her laugh, despite the sick feeling in her stomach from the waiting. "Ah guess that's true. Is that really how y' wanna do things? Or would y' just be doin' it 'cause y' think it'd be th' right thing t' do?"

Tony: Tony stared off into space for a moment while he thought about it. "Bit of both, I suppose," he decided, trying not to look over her shoulder at the test before his eyes met hers again. "Like I said, it just speeds up the time table on that proposal."

Rogue: "Th' pre-pre-proposal, y' mean? Or will y' not," Plato broke into the conversation with an apology and the announcement that the time was up. "Ah'm scared," she admitted again, "Ah shouldn't be... But Ah am."

Tony: "I'd have to skip straight to me down on one knee," he looked up at the voice, then down at Anna Marie. "It's okay to be scared. We can look at it together."

Rogue: She laughed and shook her head, "Ah don't know that y' heart could take doin' that. Y' might keel over from fear an' shock th' second y' hit th' ground." Rogue licked her lips and nodded, taking his hand and turning around, still keeping her eyes on him, but at least she made progress by having her body in the direction to look at the test. "On three?"

Tony: Tony laughed, but had to admit the sound was a little nervous. "On three. One," he stepped close behind her, holding her hand and sliding his other around her waist. "Two. Three."

Rogue: She held her breath and looked down at the test. Then realized she had forgotten to read how to read the test. Her free hand fumbled for the instructions she'd left on the counter and looked at the picture, then the test, and back again. Rogue wasn't sure how to feel when she realized what it meant. "That's... good. Right?"

Tony: That's..." He didn't really need to read the instructions, but he skimmed the paper in her hand anyway. "One line, so, it's negative." He swallowed, unsure if it was relief or disappointment he was feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Rogue: "Uh huh." She felt a little numb. Rogue stared at the test as if it would become sentient and tell her if it was good or bad. She should have known it would be negative, but she had a tiny glimmer of hope. "Nothin' t' worry about then, Ah guess..."

Tony: "Guess not." He bent to kiss her cheek, then urged her to turn around. "You've just been under a lot of stress."

Rogue: Rogue turned and placed her palms on his chest, thumbs lightly brushing through the small curls there. "Yeah." She looked up at him, "How do you feel 'bout it?"

Tony: Tony frowned, mulling it over. "That if it'd been positive, I would have felt ready. Still nervous, since I missed so much of Hope's life, but..." To get another chance, with her, and to get it right this time? He trailed off and gave her a soft smile. "Maybe someday."

Rogue: "Yeah?" She mirrored his smile and lifted to press a soft kiss to his lips. "Maybe."
